Northern NJ - Meetup topics.

Hey all, I wanted to touch base and ask people who are coming out to the Northern NJ meetups or are thinking about it what would you like to see dealt with subject-wise at these meetups? I am thinking we can have a set amount of time where someone can talk about, explain, demo, or pontificate about at the meetup and still have a meet & greet few minutes and finish with the group helping one another on real world problems.

Please add your suggestion here and we can start tackling them at upcoming meetups, maybe even make a poll of all of them and let people vote.

If anyone has lots of experience or wants to explore the very basic side, post a comment. - I'm a total novice - see www.ManagingManagedcare.com; where can I learn how to manage accounts, allow or deny comments, verify, etc.? Also, I'd like to know when/if to update my version but the developer I have been working with wants over 40 hours - any opinion?

I'd be interested in having a discussion about geolocation and mobile sites based on a Drupal back-end. I'm working on a prototype of a site that uses the Location module to associate locations with a Drupal node and have a basic proximity search working based on the ZIP code. I use Browscap to detect mobile browsers and serve up Mobile Garland as the theme for mobile users.

I'm curious if anyone has any experience use Javascript (like this one from Google: http://code.google.com/p/geo-location-javascript/ ) to detect the GPS location of a smartphone in order to do a proximity search. I could demo what I've built thus far (which is kind of rough) to those who might be interested and would be interested in any insight others may have on interfacing with smartphones using the mobile browser (as opposed to a native app). @yktdan This would be interesting to us http://www.nynjtc.org. We have hikers that are out in the middle of nowhere and not sure where they are. With our trails database we could tell them that they are on the blue trail and that they should take it downhill to the white trail and turn left to get back to the parking lot. Major problem is that cell phone signals are pretty bad in lots of places, e.g. Harriman State Park. Not much experience to contribute to a solution.

I can also show off my rough Google Map displaying module that parses Track-logs from you GPS device (no smartphone). I am having problems with a AHAH library conflicting with Google API, so I doing a minor rewrite with Prototype AJAX calls.

Yktdan - You got to show a person a Map, especially if he/she is stressing from getting lost. The people i really worry about are the ones that lose the trail.

Does anyone know of a good Drupal/LAMP/XDebug/Eclipse vmware appliance? Sometimes five computers is just not enough. -- Kipp Watson

Would like to know how to configure Drush to work with web hosting companies. Also, a Views/Panels primer from the themer perspective. I want to put two separate views on one page, is that done using panels? -=Ed.

I would like to take about 15-20 minutes to introduce and discuss the training and curriculum development project that i'm working on. - Keith Williams
