Presentation 2

"The Update Status Module for Drupal 9 Readiness" by Zoltán Herczog

This module scans the code of the contributed and custom projects you have installed and reports on any deprecated code that must be replaced before the next major version. Available project updates are also suggested to keep your site up to date. Over time, the project will resolve deprecation errors. See https://www.drupal.org/project/upgrade_status

Bio:
Zoltan is a Drupal Developer at Cheppers. He got introduced to Drupal through the Cheppers Drupal Academy two years ago and immediately became an active member of the community. In his free time he likes contributing code to Drupal and getting stuck in elevators. His goal for the future is to get more experienced as a speaker.

Presentation 3

"What's this node doing in my composer?!? Simplify your life with the Composer NodeJS installer" by Jon Pugh

  1. Install Node and NPM inside vendor/bin using the exact version you want! No need to install node or use a container.
  2. Use the same method to install grunt or Bower or whatever else you might be using.
  3. Use asset-packagist to install npm and Bower libraries without node at all.
  4. Hook into composer install to kick off theme builds using these tools, removing the need for a second command.
  5. Attempt to include a decoupled front end in a different directory.

& Bonus Lightning Talk: Introducing Yaml Tests: a new Composer plugin that makes it super easy to run a group of tests and post results to GitHub. See https://github.com/provision-ops/yaml-tests

Bio:
Jon Pugh has been building websites for 22 years and is the lead architect of DevShop, the open source DevOps platform.

Drupal Q&A

This month's presentations are on the shorter side so we are dedicating some time after the presentations to get your Drupal questions answered. Come bearing questions (and answers) no matter how basic or complex!

Have feedback for us? Let us know: http://drupal.nyc/feedback

Meanwhile, we are always looking for speakers! Volunteer/submit a suggestion at http://drupal.nyc/suggest or get in touch on Slack with any questions.

We're also soliciting talks for a one-off "Building Faster PHP Apps" Meetup (not specific to Drupal) that will take place on July 22. If you are interested in presenting on any topic related to PHP performance, please get in touch!
