Tremeur Balbous
Pyxis Technologies : http://www.pyxis-tech.com/fr/

DATABASES:

MySQL
SQL Server

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

JavaScript / AJAX

CONCEPTS:

Cross browser compatibility
Scaling web environments, caching
Database performance tuning, indexes and scaling (replication, sharding)

Apart from programming skills, the candidate should be able to take a project from start to end through all the typical phases and perform problem solving as necessary. The candidate should be a self-starter who is highly motivated and inspired in their field.

TO APPLY

Send your resume in Microsoft Word or PDF format to careers@fuelindustries.com, quoting the job you're applying for in the subject line. No phone calls, please.

Montreal Meet-up at Koumbit's office

Howdy folks,

What do you say we do a meetup at Koumbit's offices like the good ol days ;-)

Personally, I wouldn't mind giving people an update on the aegir/hostmaster project, but rather than dictate the topic I'd like to invite people to make other suggestions.

So... umm... this is a call for suggestions and confirmations!

Omar

helper/consult | Me

Umm hey all,

This is actually a really tiny gig that might be fun just as a "get you out of your normal work for 2 hours + a free meal" type thing.

I am trying (slowly) to wiggle my way out of freelance web design life, and the very (hopefully) last job I have involves integrating a map made in flash using panels and views.

Normally I would happily spend about 4 hours + learning how to do this, and enjoying myself.

However, I have a masters thesis due in about a month and frankly, that is way more important.

What I'd like to do is meet someone who is very familiar with setting up contextual panel views, and has also integrated flash into Drupal before (Some of the arguments will be coming from the swfs XML) and I will both pay them for their time and any beverages/foods consumed as we work.

The job as I see it is about 2 hours or less for someone with experience.

Oh yeah for those of you that know me, this is Miriam, I am just using my drupal login info ;)

So yeah, if you are looking for some quick under the table money, or you just want to help a nice if swamped, Drupaller out of a jam please let me know, I will pay you whatever your rate is normally, contact me by email if interested mir@mirverburg.net.

cheers,
Reminder: Montreal Drupal Meetup This Wednesday

Hey, don't forget that this Wednesday's not just an ordinary day... it's the second Wednesday of the month. And that means it's time for another Drupal meetup (originally posted here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/15798). It'll be at our office: 3630 Blvd. St-Laurent in the Plateau.

To kick-off the discussion, I'd be happy to give a short talk about Evolving Web's Drupal workflow: how to use VIM as a fully-featured IDE, SVN for version control, and a development server with wildcard DNS.

Of course the agenda is open for lots more Drupal-related topics!

Evolving Web will provide a delicious New York-style Euro Deli pizza. Please feel encouraged to bring juice, soda, beer, etc.

resource pool for progressive-minded autonomous IT workers and design

Koumbit is growing fast, and is always looking for qualified candidates,
willing to join a team of passionate individuals at work in a very
innovative environment.

We are currently seeking a Web developer, in order to further contribute
to the Hostmaster project. Prior knowledge of the Drupal platform is a
prerequisite. The candidate must also adhere to Koumbit's founding
principles, and be a team player ready to get involved in non-technical
tasks, with regards to the administration and decision-making of the
collective.

Participatory economics is the cornerstone of our organization. All
workers are paid the same hourly rate, and also have an equal say in the
way profits are reinvested, since our decision-making process is based
on consensus. We thus expect staff to be creative and dedicated members
of the organization, NOT passive employees.

Required Skills

A strong proficiency in PHP and MySQL programming.

Experience in programming Drupal modules (or module patches). Please
specify which one(s) in your resume or presentation letter.

General knowledge of CMS implementation and configuration.

The ability to meet deadlines and work autonomously.

A commitment to act in accordance with our Founding Principles:
Collective management, Education, Transparency, Copyleft (free
software), Self-sufficiency, Solidarity, Equity and equality,
Participatory economics.

Strong communicational skills, in a context of frequent & direct
communications with the clients.

Availability to work on a full-time basis is an additional asset.

Fluency in French is an additional asset.

Work Conditions

20 hours per week, at the very least. Work time could be extended to
35 hours, according to the candidate's availability.

3-month contract at the beginning, with possibility of renewal.

Hourly rate: $22 CAD.

Date of beginning: ASAP.

To submit your candidacy, please send your resume before Oct. 20, 10:00,
to Koumbit's “Comité d'embauche” (embauche@rt.koumbit.net). Please
mention “Poste de webdev (Hostmaster)” in your e-mail title.

All candidates will be subject to the same hiring rules
(http://wiki.koumbit.net/ProcédureEmbauche), although certain steps may
be streamlined given the tight deadlines of the project.

For more information about Koumbit, see our website

This is mostly time and space organisation. All those slots will be filled in collectively during the first 9AM "plenary session" (the so-called "Opening" of the OpenSpace). During that session, everyone sits in a circle and presents themselves, (the "Icebreaker"). Then people are welcome to come forward in the middle of the circle, one by one, and announce topic(s) they want to (be) talk(ed) about. They then write it down on paper and place it somewhere in the grid below, which should be printed out on a wall somewhere. This person is then responsible of:

showing up at the time and place scheduled

making sure notes are taken during the session

reporting back at the plenary at the end of the day

Schedule changes are possible provided the responsible of the session agrees to the change.

We're planning on having 1h-long sessions to squeeze the most out of the little spaces we have.

Driving: Plan some time to find parking... as there isn't much available

Public transit: take the 80 north from Place-des-Arts metro (or south from Parc) and get off at Avenue desPins.

Food / Bouffe

There will be two lunches, catered by Palmyra.ca.

We will be providing some refreshments and snacks but you are encouraged to bring more.

For supper we might consider ordering pizza on Friday... then probably go a (or many) restaurant(s) on Saturday.

Other logistics / Autres logistique

projectors: Koumbit has one, Alternatives has one... it would be nice to have another 2-3 though.
(thatpatguy says: My office has a projector that I can bring if still needed (and I'm assuming it is since this bullet point hasn't been updated yet))

Reliable wireless: Alternatives has wifi, but we might want to get ilesansfil.org's "event kit" to make it more reliable

Required hardware:

Agenda building:

Markers

Little square papers

Big sheets of papers

Little blue funtak thingy

Outreach / Communication

need to establish clear "themes" (see below)

need to make the "reasons" to come more clear (i.e. that might be why the meetups aren't attracting people)

want to attract people that aren't already in the community

holding the event at a "cool" place also attracts people

we need to start announcing ASAP.

Funding / Financement

IMO, we need to pay for (prices to be added soon):

the venue (2 days)

lunches (2)

morning/afternoon coffee/tea/snack (4)

Montreal DrupalCamp2008, planning session

Hey folks,

So the Montreal DrupalCamp will be happening this weekend... but there are still details to figure out... and there are people who have expressed an interest in taking part. I'd like to propose that we meet this week to go over the final details... let's say at Koumbit' office

Réseau Koumbit
6833 de l'Épée
Suite 308

map

Everybody is welcome to come... but even more important is for people to add their ideas to this page and to make sure that they are signed up for the event on this post.

Be sure to also sign-up for this planning meeting if you intend to attend.

Omar

DrupalCamp Montreal & Paris: organizing cross-atlantic sessions

So DrupalCampParis3 and DrupalCampMontreal will be held both on the first week-end of October. It would be so great to organize sessions across the big pond.

DrupalCampParis3 (also see the BarCamp wiki page), held on October 4th and 5th, will be hosted by a great place named La Cantine, a collaborative space full of screens and equipped with a top notch fiber internet connection. The DrupalCamp itself will be held on Saturday, and we are expecting around a hundred participants.

The fun don't stop there. The same week-end we when we will organize the first edition of an event we call Drupal n'Go, a community effort to help a NGO get some ass-kicking internet presence. In only 2 days, we will build a complete and live website for a selected NGO. All free. Free as in free beer, and free as in free speech. The NGO has been selected and the project will be uncovered within the next few days.

The DrupalCampMontreal will be held on October 3rd and 4th, hosted by the great folks of Koumbit.org (hi, there!).

So we have a full day (ie. only half a day, with the timezone difference) when we could host common sessions!

For a start, let me invite you to a live session co-hosted by Angela Byron and myself:

Angela and Damien talk about Testing and D7 development (how to make Drupal better, and get your patches accepted) [temporary title]
On Saturday, October 4th live from Paris to Montreal at 10am (Montreal Time), 4pm (Paris Time)

Do you like the idea? Should we do more sessions like this one? Could we collaborate to iron out the practical details (set up a live video feed, coordinate teams and schedules, etc.)?

Damien Tournoud
Coordinator of the DrupalCampParis3 + DrupalNGO

Sessions for DrupalCamp?

So now that the fine folks at Koumbit have confirmed a location for DrupalCamp, we need to know what you, the Montreal (and area) Drupal community, would like to learn at this event! Please leave a note on the wiki page listing sessions you can offer to give and/or sessions you would like to attend. To get you started, webchick has listed a few sessions she's prepared to offer. You might also want to check out the list of sessions at the recent DrupalCamp NYC to get some ideas.

It's been suggested that we not finalize the schedule until the day of the event, but if we can at least start to list general areas of discussion, it will help presenters prepare their talks, making this the best possible event!

Drupalers wanted | Koumbit.org

Here's the question: Were you and Koumbit meant for each other? Read on and, if so, let's organise a first date. ;-)

Koumbit is a Montreal-based non-profit organisation that uses free & open source software to provide affordable services, primarily targetted for community groups and progressive organisations in Quebec, Canada and abroad. In order to achieve this goal Koumbit adheres to founding principles and a wholistic strategy inspired by the collaborative practices involved in open-source software development.

The result is an open, progressive and innovative business model in which skills, resources and opportunities are pooled in order to create economically viable options for progressive-minded IT and design professionals. Our open structure combined with our extensive Drupal experience and our credibility in the non-profit and open-source spheres mean that we are regularly called upon to work with cool clients on interesting projects. As Koumbit's pipeline continues to grow, we need to get more people involved. Within this context the opportunities for employment, collaboration and parnerships are almost unlimited.

Which brings us to the main point; While I can't really say that there is a specific job on offer now, Koumbit is always interested in getting to know local developers and shops to discuss possible opportunities for employment, collaboration and partnership.

If any of the above sparks your interest, please feel free to send us your CV or get in touch to discuss your project ideas.

The ball is in your court now.

Programmeur Drupal/Drupal developer | Revolver 3

Merci!

ENGLISH VERSION

Revolver 3 is looking for a PHP/MySQL programmer with Drupal experience for one or two projects.

The projects are clearly defined: we have client-approved wireframes for the majority of screens. Your job will be limited to programming. We will provide design in HTML/CSS/images format. We'll decide together how we split up JavaScript efficienty. We estimate that this contract's length should be measured in weeks, not months. We will still let you estimate budget and duration on your own before we begin work.

We'd prefer someone working at our office. This would allow him/her to provide ad hoc Drupal coaching for one of our programmers while working on one of the two projects. We are well located (St-Laurent/Mt-Royal), we work in a nice, big, sunny space and we're cool people. If you prefer telecommuting, we can work something out, but we'll expect you to spend a couple of days at our offices once in a while.

Interested? Send your resume to rh [at] revolver3.com before August 15, along with a description of your most recent accomplishments and your availability in the coming months. Thank you!

Cafe refugees, freelancers - NDG co-working space - 5-7 open house

Hey Drupalites, might you spend less money contributing to a collective working space than buying a latte every day? Does cheap coffee, good telecommunications, a productive work environment and interesting office mates sound attractive to you?

The Northcliffe Square is having an open house on August 6 17:00-19:00 for general amusement and to possibly attract new members. Facebook event here. No need to RSVP.

We're located at 2000 Northcliffe, suite 219, a stone-throw from Vendome metro.

These are our membership levels.

For more information contact info@ncsq.mucs.ca or call 514.664.1074 ext 103

The Northcliffe Square is a collectively run office space on the corner of Maisonneuve and Northcliffe in NDG. A group of people involved in The MUCS Project, US-El Salvador Sister Cities, The NDG Barter Network and Typeleft Publishing founded the Northcliffe Square in October 2006 and designed and renovated the space as a multi-purpose NDG community hub providing private offices, public computer workstations, a meeting room, a lounge, and a commercially equipped kitchen.

All renovation work was done by the founding members and other NDG residents using old wooden doors and other recycled and reclaimed building materials. The finished project is a draw to other NDG organizations seeking affordable office or event space and the evolution of the collective management of the space provides a valuable model for the design and development of commercial spaces in the future MUCS building.

The last Drupal 5@7 (aka "happy hour" for all you non-Montrealers out there) was the best meetup ever and so let's schedule our next one!

The last Drupal 5@7 (aka "happy hour" for all you non-Montrealers out there) was great and it is about time to do another one. As usual there are tons of great conversations to be had, insights to be gleaned and technical tricks to be learned.
So all we need to do is pick a place I guess. Are there any other suggestions for the time/place/agenda?

How Are You Traveling to Szeged?

Hey guys,

I've finally decided to go to Szeged! But the air fares can vary a lot! The cheapest I found on Kayak for Montreal-Budapest, Aug 26-Sep 1, was $1420 through NWA. If I get to NYC, the price falls to a bit over $1000.

For all you Montrealers attending, what are your strategies in getting there?
Also, are the rooms mentioned in the accommodation page meant to be shared? If so, anyone interested?

Thanks!
Montreal DrupalCamp2008

That's right folks, Koumbit.org has decided to host a DrupalCamp in Montreal! While we are still at the very earliest planning phases here, the idea is to hold a 2-3 day open-space style event in Montreal the first weekend of October.

While bigger and better than the small meetups of recent years, it isn' t as crazy as a quarter-million-dollar DrupalCon.

What is open-space? Well, one way to put it is that it'll be whatever we collective make it to be. The other way that I would describe it is to point you towards the wikipedia entry.

We are aiming high here. The event should be oriented around birds of a feather style sessions in a format that allows people to roam from one session to another or to continue working as long as they like on their favorite themes. It should provide real learning opportunities for both developers and users alike and should represent a networking bonanza for Drupal shops, indenpendent developers and existing/potential users. We want to avoid the panelists-in-front-of-audiences format that has become the norm in the bigger events. Oh, and it should be cheap!

So start thinking about what you want to see and do there. I, for one, would to see all the other regional Drupal shops show up in force to create a sort of open-marketplace... I'd like to see people showing off their tools, sites and methods... I'd like to see some coding sessions... I'd like to see people discussing what is and isn't working in the community, both locally and globally... oh and an internet connection that works would be nice too ;-)

Anyway, like I said these are early days. We are starting the planning now to make sure that we have the time to turn this into one of the coolest events in Drupal history.

So after some discussions we're aiming at meeting up at the bande passante (8655 St-Denis, crémazie metro) this friday at 5-6PM to hook up with the Drupal / Koumbit / Bande Passante folks in a joyful mix to meet the local scene, share experiences and discuss how to better collaborate over the Big Pond.

Sushi nearby (along with the usual pizza and fast food culprits), free first beer for everyone (until we crack our budget!).

I'll be in Montreal for work and personal reasons during two weeks in the middle of June. Is there any Drupaler that feels like a Drupal Beer or a Drupal Diner on Thursday June 12 or Friday June 13?

I would be very happy to meet the local Drupal scene, share experiences with you and/or discuss how we could cooperate more closely across the Big Pond!

See you all there!

Développeur / Web developer (Drupal, LAMP, CSS) | Contract

EN FRANCAIS VERS LE BAS

I've been doing contract work for a Montreal based French-language book publisher for the past two months. They are running Drupal 5.x to maintain a web presence and list their book collections (no e-commerce at the moment). The application is already online, most of the work is done but there are a few feature requests. A solid knowledge of CSS is necessary, as they have a keen eye for details. You also need to be able to read and write in French. A graphic artist provides all the necessary images.

Although I am currently telecommuting they would like someone in or around the Montreal area. Email me at dev /at/ furtivecode.com for additional details.

No Drupal meetup this saturday

Does anyone want to have that meetup as our regular planning? RSVP by friday at noon, if there are 4 positive responses, we'll make it, otherwise we'll fail. :)

This meetup is supposed to be in some Cafe somewhere, so if you have a suggestion as to where to do the meetup, that is also welcome. If no proper suggestion gets in, the meetup will take place at Bande-Passante (8655 Saint-Denis, next to métro Crémazie).
