Umm hey all,

This is actually a really tiny gig that might be fun just as a "get you out of your normal work for 2 hours + a free meal" type thing.

I am trying (slowly) to wiggle my way out of freelance web design life, and the very (hopefully) last job I have involves integrating a map made in flash using panels and views.

Normally I would happily spend about 4 hours + learning how to do this, and enjoying myself.

However, I have a masters thesis due in about a month and frankly, that is way more important.

What I'd like to do is meet someone who is very familiar with setting up contextual panel views, and has also integrated flash into Drupal before (Some of the arguments will be coming from the swfs XML) and I will both pay them for their time and any beverages/foods consumed as we work.

The job as I see it is about 2 hours or less for someone with experience.

Oh yeah for those of you that know me, this is Miriam, I am just using my drupal login info ;)

Typical OpenSpace Agenda day

This is mostly time and space organisation. All those slots will be filled in collectively during the first 9AM "plenary session" (the so-called "Opening" of the OpenSpace). During that session, everyone sits in a circle and presents themselves, (the "Icebreaker"). Then people are welcome to come forward in the middle of the circle, one by one, and announce topic(s) they want to (be) talk(ed) about. They then write it down on paper and place it somewhere in the grid below, which should be printed out on a wall somewhere. This person is then responsible of:

showing up at the time and place scheduled
making sure notes are taken during the session
reporting back at the plenary at the end of the day

Schedule changes are possible provided the responsible of the session agrees to the change.

We're planning on having 1h-long sessions to squeeze the most out of the little spaces we have.

DrupalCamp Montreal & Paris: organizing cross-atlantic sessions

So DrupalCampParis3 and DrupalCampMontreal will be held both on the first week-end of October. It would be so great to organize sessions across the big pond.

DrupalCampParis3 (also see the BarCamp wiki page), held on October 4th and 5th, will be hosted by a great place named La Cantine, a collaborative space full of screens and equipped with a top notch fiber internet connection. The DrupalCamp itself will be held on Saturday, and we are expecting around a hundred participants.

The fun don't stop there. The same week-end we when we will organize the first edition of an event we call Drupal n'Go, a community effort to help a NGO get some ass-kicking internet presence. In only 2 days, we will build a complete and live website for a selected NGO. All free. Free as in free beer, and free as in free speech. The NGO has been selected and the project will be uncovered within the next few days.

The DrupalCampMontreal will be held on October 3rd and 4th, hosted by the great folks of Koumbit.org (hi, there!).

So we have a full day (ie. only half a day, with the timezone difference) when we could host common sessions!

For a start, let me invite you to a live session co-hosted by Angela Byron and myself:

So now that the fine folks at Koumbit have confirmed a location for DrupalCamp, we need to know what you, the Montreal (and area) Drupal community, would like to learn at this event! Please leave a note on the wiki page listing sessions you can offer to give and/or sessions you would like to attend. To get you started, webchick has listed a few sessions she's prepared to offer. You might also want to check out the list of sessions at the recent DrupalCamp NYC to get some ideas.

It's been suggested that we not finalize the schedule until the day of the event, but if we can at least start to list general areas of discussion, it will help presenters prepare their talks, making this the best possible event!

Les deux mandats sont clairement définis: nous avons des « wireframes » approuvés par le client pour la majorité des écrans. Ce sera un mandat de programmation pure. A group of people involved in The MUCS Project, US-El Salvador Sister Cities, The NDG Barter Network and Typeleft Publishing founded the Northcliffe Square in October 2006 and designed and renovated the space as a multi-purpose NDG community hub providing private offices, public computer workstations, a meeting room, a lounge, and a commercially equipped kitchen.

All renovation work was done by the founding members and other NDG residents using old wooden doors and other recycled and reclaimed building materials. The finished project is a draw to other NDG organizations seeking affordable office or event space and the evolution of the collective management of the space provides a valuable model for the design and development of commercial spaces in the future MUCS building.

The last Drupal 5@7 (aka "happy hour" for all you non-Montrealers out there) was the best meetup ever and so let's schedule our next one! We'll probably have a Drupalcon wrap-up, as well as the usual tons of great conversations to be had, insights to be gleaned and technical tricks to be learned. We'll also have a status update meeting about Montreal DrupalCamp!

This will also be a Drupal Potluck. Bring some food, snacks, or drinks with you to share. :)

How Are You Traveling to Szeged?

Hey guys,

I've finally decided to go to Szeged! But the air fares can vary a lot! The cheapest I found on Kayak for Montreal-Budapest, Aug 26-Sep 1, was $1420 through NWA. If I get to NYC, the price falls to a bit over $1000.

For all you Montrealers attending, what are your strategies in getting there?
Also, are the rooms mentioned in the accommodation page meant to be shared? If so, anyone interested?

Montreal DrupalCamp2008

That's right folks, Koumbit.org has decided to host a DrupalCamp in Montreal! While we are still at the very earliest planning phases here, the idea is to hold a 2-3 day open-space style event in Montreal the first weekend of October.

While bigger and better than the small meetups of recent years, it isn' t as crazy as a quarter-million-dollar DrupalCon.

What is open-space? Well, one way to put it is that it'll be whatever we collective make it to be. The other way that I would describe it is to point you towards the wikipedia entry.

We are aiming high here. The event should be oriented around birds of a feather style sessions in a format that allows people to roam from one session to another or to continue working as long as they like on their favorite themes. It should provide real learning opportunities for both developers and users alike and should represent a networking bonanza for Drupal shops, indenpendent developers and existing/potential users. We want to avoid the panelists-in-front-of-audiences format that has become the norm in the bigger events. Oh, and it should be cheap!

So start thinking about what you want to see and do there. I, for one, would to see all the other regional Drupal shops show up in force to create a sort of open-marketplace... I'd like to see people showing off their tools, sites and methods... I'd like to see some coding sessions... I'd like to see people discussing what is and isn't working in the community, both locally and globally... oh and an internet connection that works would be nice too ;-)

Anyway, like I said these are early days. We are starting the planning now to make sure that we have the time to turn this into one of the coolest events in Drupal history.

So after some discussions we're aiming at meeting up at the bande passante (8655 St-Denis, crémazie metro) this friday at 5-6PM to hook up with the Drupal / Koumbit / Bande Passante folks in a joyful mix to meet the local scene, share experiences and discuss how to better collaborate over the Big Pond.

I've been doing contract work for a Montreal based French-language book publisher for the past two months. They are running Drupal 5.x to maintain a web presence and list their book collections (no e-commerce at the moment). The application is already online, most of the work is done but there are a few feature requests. A solid knowledge of CSS is necessary, as they have a keen eye for details. You also need to be able to read and write in French. A graphic artist provides all the necessary images.

No Drupal meetup this saturday

Does anyone want to have that meetup as our regular planning? RSVP by friday at noon, if there are 4 positive responses, we'll make it, otherwise we'll fail. :)

This meetup is supposed to be in some Cafe somewhere, so if you have a suggestion as to where to do the meetup, that is also welcome. If no proper suggestion gets in, the meetup will take place at Bande-Passante (8655 Saint-Denis, next to métro Crémazie).

Est-ce qu'il y a des gens qui veulent faire un meetup selon notre horaire régulier? Veuillez confirmer d'ici vendredi midi, s'il y a 4 réponses positives, on a un meetup, sinon on échoue. :)
