What do we want from drupal Montreal/Quebec?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Just wanted to announcec that I have established a group for Montreal area developers and themers.

Please go join, and lets start setting up some workshops and events.

First on my agenda is creating a clear and easy set of best practises for bilingual sites in drupal. Anyone else got some suggestions?

I am an anglo so if mes ami(e)s francophones want to translate my stuff and re-post feel free to go 'cochon' wild.

I am a little curious to see if we end up with two groups in quebec an anglo and a franco group, or if we can work out a way of working bilingually together.

Despite the sorry state of my written french I prefer the second option.

Thanks for starting this...

I really wanted there to be a Montréal group, but didn't want to go and start it myself since I knew I wouldn't have time to organize things, etc. ;) I agree with trying at least to keep both francophones and anglophones in the same group. Since this site is going to be written communication, probably people can just post in whatever language they're most comfortable in, and the rest of us can babelfish our way to understanding. ;)

As far as "in person" get-togethers, the Drupal meet-up that Koumbit organized worked fairly well, I think. The proceedings were done primarily in English, but people also spoke French if that was their native tongue and the most relevant bits got translated for those "deer-in-the-headlights" people on either side. ;)

Oh wait, I didn't answer the actual question ;)

I mostly just want to just get some "face-time" with other people interested in Drupal from time to time. My job keeps me pretty swamped (and also pretty house-bound, or at least computer-bound ;)), so it'd be nice to get out once in awhile to meet and "talk shop" with some other folks in the city. :)

If there are interesting projects we can work on, so much the better (though I must profess ignorance on the subject of internationalization). Maybe we just all agree to be at a certain cafe between X and X hours, working away on whatever, or maybe we organize bug fixing parties nearer to the release of 4.8/5.0.

I'm all for cafe x and X

I am also screenbound for most of June ;)

not much of a bug fixer as I am a designer/themer.

I'm all for having drupal days at the local watering hole /wifi cafe.

Drupal days!

We can make a little sign that people can print out and either attach to their laptop and/or lay on the table next to them. "Yes, I'm working with Drupal...come over and talk to me about it".

Come down to the cafe, delete your MS Frontpage site, and install Drupal :P

Hi Miriam,

I'm in Ottawa but I regularly come to Montreal. If you ever setup regular informal meetings at a pub or events, etc.; try to have it on Friday nights or weekends and I just might attend ;-)

Je préfère les groupes bilingues, au moins jusqu'au moment où le nombre de personnes est tellement grand que ça deviendra logique de scinder entre groupes franco et anglo...

Are you interested in organizing a Drupal event in Montréal for the Quebec - Montreal - Ottawa area? See http://groups.drupal.org/ottawa

... in Montreal for whoever wants to show up. This time it may be a little more geek-oriented but that has yet to be seen. Anyway, I just wanted to drop a note here about that.

What about having two sessions?

miriam's picture

Instead of a geek non-geek event, could we have the first part be some specific skills-based stuff for people already using drupal and the second half as more casual drupal-intro stuff?

Unless you want the ninja-drupal session to happen last so we can all drink beer afterwards, I have no preference really.

Definitely not at the same cafe though, that place had creepy sandwiches.

Somewhere that serves poutine and Mathieu can bring a digital camera:)

I look forward to being the first to upload the poutine picture. Ça vient de décider ce que je manger cette nuit... et ça tombe bien : on est samedi! :-)

i18n...

Kind of off-topic, but I know i18n was something people were wanting to work on. Obviously, 5.0 is frozen now, but for 5.1...
