Beginner Resources

It was nice to finally make it to a NYC Drupal meetup. It's interesting to hear what's going on out there in the community.

As a follow up to our discussion from last night, I thought it might be helpful to jot down some online resources to get a Drupal beginner up the learning curve.

While not directly about Drupal, if you aren't up to speed on HTML, CSS, and the basics of PHP, it may be worth you time to either do some reading or take some online courses. I took the advice of one of the Drupal School videos and spent $25 to get one month of access to Lynda.com where I took courses on XHTML, CSS, and PHP. It took about a week. Even just watching the first half of each of the videos to get an idea of the basics will go a long way.

Finally, if you're feeling comfortable with the basics of Drupal and PHP, you might also want to check out the Drupal Dojo's video series: http://www.drupaldojo.com/lessons?page=5 . It's more advanced than Drupal School but there's some great content on there.

If anyone else has any suggestions, you should certainly post below.

I'm looking forward to the next meetup.

I always suggest this tutorial to Drupal beginners. It's a great way to build confidence fast and makes use of many popular modules.

This is a video tutorial that shows how to create a gallery using imagecache, cck, thickbox. It's quick, fairly simple and the results are awesome.

Here's a basic overview of input formats and how to use them.
