I'm looking for Drupal-friendly web hosting for my organization. If you send your suggestion directly to me I'll compile and e-mail the list. Thanks! (NOTE: I'm posting to the Bay Area group because I'm looking for hosting that has good network speeds here in the Bay Area.)

Desired specs
- prefer to spend <$50/month
- good network speeds in California important as visitors overwhelmingly from Bay Area
- typical Drupal requirements: Apache, PHP 5, MySQL, PHPMyAdmin
- tech support by phone would be nice

Traffic on our current (FrontPage) website
Storage: 300 MB
Bandwith: 650 MB/month
Visitors: average 500-1000/day, peaks at 2,000/day

We're hoping to increase our traffic with the launch of a new statewide campaign early next year.

Our consultant has recommended site5's Reseller acount for $20/month. It has PHP 4/5, MySQL 4+, cPanel, Fantastico, 10 GB/month disk space, 2 TB/month bandwith, and unlimited databases. He says it has less features than their cheapest account, but is on a better quality, faster, and less populated shared server. However they don't offer telephone support and I've heard conflicting reports about whether their servers are overloaded.

Any opinions of site5 or recommendations of other companies?

Nonprofit vs. for profit

If you're a nonprofit - without a doubt you want to go with Electric Embers (EE)

If you're a for profit - I would strongly recommend pair Networks

EE is currently running PHP4 - so at the moment they would not meet your specs. But, they are so cool and personable - if you explained your needs - I am sure they would accommodate you.

Both of these hosts have years of experience, do not sacrifice existing customers for growth, and really know what they are doing. I've used many hosting companies and these two are the only ones who have consistently delivered through the years.

Good luck.

Siteground

I use Siteground.com for low budget hosting. They meet your specs for $6-7/mo. and they seem to work pretty well. They have a nicely organized system, and. while they don't offer phone support, their email support is very responsive.

If you want to run you own server, the Cernio Coop (based at 200 Paul) is offering virtual servers for qualifying organizations at a good price.

Who did you end up going with?

Recently got into trouble with my existing web host whose server was hacked so i am shopping for another. I have a drupal website (commercial) with similar characteristics and would appreciate any feedback. My site has a large number of modules and photos and I am concerned about page load time.

Thank you.
