Drupal Advanced Forum vs phpBB Forum

What are the pros and cons for using Drupal Advanced forum or phpBB?
demo of Drupal Advanced forum is here: http://socnet.shellmultimedia.com/forum
this demo used Blue Lagoon Stacked styling
how to style your advanced forum is here: http://drupal.org/node/234042

For a good example of using phpBB with Drupal 6, see here:
http://www.teenrc.ca/phpbbforum
you can download phpbb skins from the internet
Drupal has module for phpbb. drupal.org forums has a drupal 6 version

I like the style of phpbb for the posts with the author pane on the right hand side.
Drupal Adv. Forum puts the author pane at the top of each post. which I don't like as much.

Has anyone customized Drupal Advanced Forum to move the author pane to the left or right side of the post?

any thoughts or suggestions for using Adv forum or phpBB would be appreciated.

Need checklist for Drupal theming. What makes a complete theme?

I attended Open Web Vancouver session on Thursday, June 11, 2009 with Angie Byron. We were talking about the lack of good looking themes for Drupal. So Angie encouraged designers to create and submit themes to Drupal.org.

I asked about a checklist or guidelines to developing custom themes for Drupal. How do you know when your theme is complete? Some themes on Drupal.org say RC1, alpha, beta, dev. What do these versions mean if anything?

I guess what I'm looking for is a checklist or guidelines for what are the minimum requirements for a Drupal theme. I see that most Wordpress themes include styling for blog comments, forms, H1, H2, bullet points. I'm wondering what types of styling elements do other theme designers include in their themes?

So some sort of checklist or guidelines are needed for Drupal themes. What do you think?

need requirements/specs for Drupal theming including design and coding

I would like to collaborate with other Drupal theme designers. I am writing a specifications document for a Drupal 5.x theme. What types of design items do you include in your theme design projects? I am starting with this:

A. Custom Graphical User Interface Design

Website layout - Custom Drupal theme including graphical header and footer and navigation menus that appear on every page. Blocks for Staying Connected, Sign up for Updates, and Register and Sponsors will also be themed. Global styling for H1, H2 tags, main content text is also included.

Navigation menus – horizontal menu near the top of the page will be the Primary Links and will include graphical rollover buttons.
Footer menu – for Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Sitemap will also be included.

theming for any new design elements will be available at an additional charge. For example, many blogs have different styling for the comments. Or a View will need theming for a certain section of the website.

What would you add?

Mozilla Service Week

I just cam across this: http://serviceweek.mozilla.org: "Mozilla Service Week [Sept. 14-21] is all about community – your community. We want you to find a way to use technology to make a difference in your neighborhood, your school, your library, your town. We welcome any act of service, no matter how small."

It made me wonder if it would be interesting for our September meet-up to do a "n00b night" where experienced Drupal peeps would make themselves available to beginners. I remember once being intimidated by the installation process, searching to find the essentials and struggling to discover the best practices. Have you ever said to yourself "What the heck is taxonomy and what is it for"? It seems that this would be a good opportunity to help some people who are in a similar predicament!

My initial thoughts on the format are:
- Hands-on, no presentations
- Maybe there could be "stations" where different topics are discussed:
-- Basic installation
-- Administering your site
-- Basic theming
-- Contributing and finding answers
-- Popular modules
-- Etc.
- Fresh and tasty beverages, of course!

Being so close to DrupalCon, it might also serve as a primer to allow some of the newly interested folks to understand a bit more what's the buzz during that time as they get feedback on what's going on in the community. It is also the the start of school year for many and it might be a good time to reach out to the students.

I know September is far away - and who really wants to think about the fall now!? - but since it's fresh in my mind, I though I'd put the idea out there and see if there is any interest.

Hope you are all well.
Francis

Need help building data-driven site

I'm vaguely competent in Drupal basics but I keep hitting a bit of a wall. I'm building a site that would allow people to log in, set themselves up as a provider or a consumer (so to speak), and fill in details about who they are or what they need. Then the site could suggest to the consumers what providers are in their area and might meet their needs. I'd also like to allow for commenting on providers and consumers and rating them.

I hope this isn't too vague, but that's the gist.

I assume that CCK is an important choice for this site along with a number of the modules in the CCK world, that I'm not confused about. I think even the commenting and rating part I can figure out, it's just a matter of the right modules.

Where keep hitting the wall is after I create the fields and start building the forms. I'm obviously missing something on how to present them and how to use Views as part of this process, as I have the feeling that I need Views but I'm not even 100% certain that I do.

I also realize that the proximity issue should be fun, maybe I can get that kind of information through the Google maps API or something. But first things first.

Surrey Drupal Users Group Next Meetup June 18

Ryan Dempsey will be covering image handling in Drupal. New Drupal users are often frustrated by the fact that there is no image handling included by default in Drupal core. Searching the module repository only adds to the confusion as there are so many different options to choose from with regards to image handling. We'll look at a few popular recipes to get images onto your Drupal website. This talk is geared to those that are fairly new to Drupal, though it would help to have a very basic understanding of CCK and Views. Experienced Drupalists are also welcome as we would love to hear alternative methods and site recipes.

Time:
June 18
7:00 - 9:00 PM

Location:
ABC Restaurant - Fleetwood
15373 Fraser Hwy
Surrey, BC V3R 0A1
(604) 583-3228

Please RSVP if you'd like to join us.

NOTE: There's no cost for this event, however it would be great if you can come prepared to order something (some of us order dinner, some just drinks) along with a 15% gratuity as we really want to keep up a good relationship with ABC as they've been great in allowing us to book their conference room.

25% Off Offer for Open Web Vancouver 2009

We Drupaler's of the Pacific Northwest have been given a special offer for Open Web Vancouver 2009 on June 11/12. The first 10 people using the discount code: DRUPALISTA at registration get 25% off on their ticket.

This is going to a great conference. Not only are Drupal notables like Angie Byron, Karoly Negyesi, and James Walker presenting, there's many presentations relevant to what's happening in the Drupal community. There's presentations on mobile technology, mashups and cloud computing, and Vancouver Drupal's favorite son, Boris Mann, is speaking on semantic web. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention presentations by locals Rick Vugteveen and Djun Kim.

The other big news revolves around the City of Vancouver's Open City initiative. The conference organizers are working with the City of Vancouver IT and City Council to help promote the new Open City initiative. There will be a talk from David Eaves and Councilor Andrea Reimer on this new initiative by the city to open up their data, as well as a workshop on Friday afternoon with City IT Staff to brainstorm on the possibilities.

Conference schedule: http://www.openwebvancouver.ca/schedule
Drupal developer and designer | Checkout

Need a (really) strong and efficient programmer to build me a site similar to metacritic.com in scope, look/feel and functionality but for hotels.

I'm looking for someone who can handle the full development of the website: Design, CSS/HTML, PHP and Drupal integration. Strong PHP skills are absolutely required.

At this stage, I'm more just concerned with having it built solidly and to spec - the design is secondary.

My budget is $500-650 for this project.

If you're interested, please email me with your phone number, sample work and any questions you may have.

Designer | Laird Associates

I am looking for design and maintenance assistance with my personal drupal site (rosslaird.com). I am an author and teacher of creativity, and will be releasing a new book in the fall (as well as launching a new creativity program). This new book project requires a redesign of the front page of the site (which will be a modification of the acquia marina theme), an upgrade from the current drupal 5 to drupal 6, some css color customizations, and some work with blocks for book ordering, program registration, etc. This is a small project but might be of interest to a designer who wants to make connections to the world of publishing, social services, and the wider creative arts community.

I have good knowledge of drupal and have maintained my own site in drupal for about 6 years. The assistance I require involves css, a bit of php, and front page development. And, of course, I would want to "help" with the process of the redesign. A drupal 6 test site is already set up with the correct theme and modules (but not front page development).

If you are interested in this project, feel free to drop me a line:

Need help with Views / Flash integration

Hello,

I have a small job for any Drupal developer with time to help. I simply need to integrate a Drupal view (already built) with a Flash element (also already built). Flash is already reading data from an xml file, so perhaps exporting the view to xml on page load would do the trick. Or perhaps services/AMFPHP.

Note, I'm not looking for advice on how to do this myself this time around as I'm swamped with other things. I'm looking for someone who can take this task off my hands, I'll pay for your time.

Thanks,

Please RSVP if you'd like to join us.

Place:
You may be aware of the newest version of module 'Devel' (6.x-1.16)

Hi Guys,
You may be aware the newest version of module 'Devel' (6.x-1.16) if you'd like to update the module. There is at least one conflict with 'Administration Menu' module as far as I found.
They changed the menu links to arrays from strings, so you would always have an error message like

preg_match() expects parameter 2 to be string, array given in ...\sites\all\modules\admin_menu\admin_menu.inc on line 244.

Here is a discussion about this issue (http://drupal.org/node/431186), somebody said it's marked as fixed by 'Administration Menu' guys in version 6.x-3.x-dev, but there is no PROD version coming yet.

Cheers,
Steve

Backup files directory to S3

Thought someone in Vancouver must have implemented this before...

I need a tool to sync a copy of Drupal's files directory with S3. Backup and Migrate seems to allow me to save regular copies of my database to S3 (though I haven't tested it yet) . Is there a similar tool for files? In this case, I'd like to just keep the latest snapshot, similar to rsync.

How to Export MySQL DB in UTF-8?

Hello

I have a test Drupal web site.
The majority of the content is in slovak language.
I have created a story with title: Test of slovak charakters in Title (ľ,š,č,ť,ž,ý,á,í,é,ú,ä,ô,Ľ,Š,Č,Ť,Ž,Ý,Á,Í,É,Ú)
I have entered this story by going to Administer/Create Content/Story, switching my keyboard to SK - slovak (Slovakia) and typing the slovak characters.
Look at http://www.sk-bc.ca/slovo/?q=node/190

I need to export the Drupal DB.

My ISP does not offer MyPhpAdmin, so I had to write my own php scripts to export MySql table structures and data.

The script:
* extracts data from DB tables, e.g.: select * from node
* generates INSERT INTO statement, e.g.: INSERT INTO node ...
* creates a text file with the INSERT INTO statements
* offers to the client to Open or Save a text file with the INSERT INTO statements

When I extract data from the DB table, every column/value/attribute is processed like this:

$AttrValue = ....taken from the database table ....
$SlashAttrValue = addslashes($AttrValue);
if(mb_detect_encoding($SlashAttrValue)=='UTF-8'){
$Utf8SlashAttrValue = $SlashAttrValue;
}else{
$Utf8SlashAttrValue = utf8_encode($SlashAttrValue);
}
echo ($Utf8SlashAttrValue);

When I generate a text file I use

header("Content-disposition: filename=Backup.data");
header("Content-type: application/octet-stream; charset=utf-8");
header("Pragma: no-cache");
header("Expires: 0");

The file was generated.

When I open it by a text editor (notepad), it shows:
...
INSERT INTO D5_5_slovo_node (nid, vid, type, title, uid, status, created, changed, comment, promote, moderate, sticky, language, tnid, translate) VALUES
...
('190', '199', 'story', 'Test of slovak charakters in Title (?,š,?,?,ž,ý,á,í,é,ú,ä,ô,?,Š,?,?,Ž,Ý,Á,Í,É,Ú)', '1', '1', '1239465107', '1239465107', '2', '0', '0', '0', '', '0', '0');

When I open it MS Word (Vista), it asks for encoding, I specify Inicode (UTF-8), and it shows:
('190', '199', 'story', 'Test of slovak charakters in Title (?,š,?,?,ž,ý,á,í,é,ú,ä,ô,?,Š,?,?,Ž,Ý,Á,Í,É,Ú)', '1', '1', '1239465107', '1239465107', '2', '0', '0', '0', '', '0', '0');

Obviously, some slovak characters have been exported correctly and some not.

Do you have any idea why?

Thank you for you time.

need help with menu URLs for listings editor role

I am building a realtor site with Drupal. The property listing module from netrift.com works great!
See http://www.netrift.com/content/ulisting

I have a question about setting up a specific menu for the realtor to edit listings.

I set up a user role for the realtor to add/modify/delete property listings and blog entries. I also set up a menu
for the realtor role. But I'm having problems with the paths. I would like the realtor menu to show up on his profile page when he logs in. But the path on that page is 3 levels eg. localhost/myrealtor/user/ . The realtor menu shows up on the content pages and the menu URLs work on the content pages but there are other pages that have deeper levels and then the menu URLs don't work. For example, the content pages have URLs like this:
localhost/myrealtor/about-us and the user profile page has this path: localhost/myrealtor/users/

I don't want to use absolute URLs because this site in in development on my laptop and I will be uploading it to a web host. So I would prefer to use relative paths.

What's the best way to fix this? Please explain or point me to a tutorial that deals with this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

LinuxFest Northwest - Sign up NOW!

LinuxFest Northwest is coming up soon -- April 25-26 in Bellingham, http://linuxfestnorthwest.org

We are planning to hold a mini-DrupalCamp at LinuxFest -- see http://groups.drupal.org/node/20345 for format.

However, deadlines are approaching! Only a few people (from Vancouver I think?) have signed up to give formal talks on Saturday (Jakob assures me that even though the deadline is past, if you sign up now (4/8), you can still get in). Please do so if you want to give a formal talk on Saturday.

We are also planning to have a "BarCamp" style camp on Sunday, but so far, only a few people have signed up as planning to attend LinuxFest Northwest. If you think you'll be there and are interested in the Sunday BarCamp, please go to http://groups.drupal.org/node/20598 and sign up now. Thanks! We need to know how many to plan for.

Also, we'd like to have a "Drupal Clinic" room at LinuxFest on Saturday. The idea would be that people could drop in with Drupal questions, and experts (meaning you!) would be there to answer the questions.

So, if you would like to staff the Drupal Clinic room for an hour (or two or three) on Saturday, please sign up here (this is a Wiki page). Thanks! Please include your name and a link to your user page on groups.drupal.org or other contact information. Anyone from Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, Portland, or farther afield is welcome to be an "expert".

Sign up to be an "expert" in the Saturday "Drupal Clinic" room

Note: Talks the last few years went 10 - 11, 11-12:30, 1:30-3, and 3-4.

10 AM - 11 AM
1.
2.

11 AM - 12 PM
1.
2.

12 PM - 1 PM
1.
2.

1 PM - 2 PM
1.
2.

2 PM - 3 PM
1.
2.

3 PM - 4 PM
1.
2.

Any time that's needed (check back and fill in slots closer to LinuxFest; indicate how many hours)
April 2009 Meeting: Automated Deployment with the Ægir Hosting System

Automation is the name of the game for efficiently maintaining multiple websites and Drupal has the tools to do it! Join us at 6:30pm on Thursday April 23, 2009 at Raincity Studios for the Vancouver League of Drupalers April meeting where Robin Puga will step through the process of deploying Drupal sites using Ægir as well as review the current state of the project. Robin will also cover some techniques used to deploy complex sites using Install Profiles in Ægir.

This month instead of a case study we're doing lightning talks. Leave a comment if you're interested in giving one.

Date: Thursday April 23, 6:30pm
Location: Raincity Studios, 1 Alexander Street, Suite 400 in Gastown. [Map]
Cost: There is no charge and all are welcome

For those who don't need to leave right away there's typically a more social discussion at a local pub afterwards.

Agenda

Automated Deployment with the Ægir Hosting System

Automation is the name of the game for efficiently maintaining multiple websites and Drupal has the tools to do it! The Ægir hosting system lets you create and manage a site by filling out a form and pressing submit. Is it really this easy? Robin Puga will step through the process of deploying Drupal sites using Ægir as well as review the current state of the project. Robin will also cover some techniques used to deploy complex sites using Install Profiles in Ægir.

This past month, Robin Puga has finished researching and implementing the Ægir hosting system for a project he's been working on through Affinity Bridge (affinitybridge.com). As you may have heard, Ægir (formally known as Hostmaster2, http://groups.drupal.org/aegir-hosting-system) is a set of modules for Drupal which allows you to deploy and maintain other Drupal sites. Yes, that's right Drupal deploying Drupal. Ægir has just had its first major release and big plans for the future. The Ægir hosting system is the work of many developers but particularly Adrian Rossouw now with DevSeed). As Robin likes to put it, "in my recent work I've found the view is pretty amazing standing on the shoulders of giants."

In his presentation, Robin will step through the process of deploying Drupal sites using Ægir as well as review the current state of the project. Robin will also cover some techniques used to deploy complex sites using Install Profiles in Ægir.

Robin Puga is an independent software developer living in Vancouver. For over a decade Robin has been developing web applications using free and open source tools. His company, Digiloom (digiloom.ca), has been providing clients open source website content management systems allowing non-technical users to maintain their own websites since 2002. Robin also co-hosts the radio program Each For All: The Co-operative Connection (http://www.eachforall.org) on Vancouver Co-op Radio.

Lightning Talks

For this night, a lightning talk is a 5 minute presentation on something useful or cool, and need only be marginally related to technology. It might be a cool website feature, a useful utility, or how to enable an option from program. You can use a notebook computer, cellphone, cue cards or wave your hands and dance! Some of the best lightning talks have been non-techincal, like how to do a stretch break or a 5 minute introduction to mind-mapping. Be creative!

We'll go for up to six talks. Leave a comment if you'd like to give a talk.

Drupal Q&A

Bring your questions on anything related to Drupal from how to do something technical in PHP to what modules are needed to implement a feature you want.

Location Details

Raincity Studios

Raincity Studios are located at 1 Alexander Street, Suite 400 in Gastown. [Map]
There's a security intercom at the door, so you'll need to buzz to get in. Take the elevator to the top floor, then take the flight of stairs to the floor above that.

Thank You Raincity

Our thanks to Raincity Studios for making their office available for our meetings.

Drupal Association

We encourage everyone receiving value from Drupal and the Vancouver League of Drupalers to join the Drupal Association: http://association.drupal.org/membership

Not only does this directly support Drupal, it supports the groups.drupal.org website where our group's web presence is based.

Intermediate or Senior Drupal Developer | Work at Play

Who?

We are Work at Play Social Media Labs, a small 25 or so person company leading some of the most innovative projects in social media.

We work with clients like Viacom/MTV/Brash Entertainment/NBC and Mattel to make the web a better and more interesting place.

What?

We are in need of some Drupal Development Ninjas. You know who you are. You contribute to Drupal or are very active on Drupal.org. You have contributed or have maintained Drupal modules (or you want too). You can cite all the differences between 5.x and 6.x.

You know the LAMP stack up and down. You dream in PHP. You whip MySQL into shape and make it jump through hoops. You think of your brain as a memcache layer. You dabble in Rails and Python.

Here is a little more detail of what you have:

A computer science degree (or equivalent) with experience and working knowledge of Object Oriented Programming concepts, PHP, W3C Web Standards, XHMTL, XML-RPC, CVS/SVN, JavaScript, CSS, MySQL.

You are aware of the abilities and limitations of web related technologies like Flash, Flex, Javascript, Silverlight, etc

1 to 2 Years of Experience with Drupal (No exceptions here folks!)

Experience with JQuery for some browser magic

A solid work ethic and a wicked attitude towards work. You are creative, you like to have fun with your work, and you take pride in co-creating engaging web experiences that we can all be proud of.

Knowledge of Social Media is a must. You've read books like Groundswell and Wikinomics and you understand that we are in a world beyond 2D web pages. It is no longer about clicks and page views. You are on twitter, Friendfeed, Facebook, and work your network on LinkedIn. You may even be an active blogger.

You realize that documentation and best practices are a necessary evil to producing quality results for us and for clients. As such, you approach documentation responsibilities with enthusiasm.

You are a self starter and very motivated. You don't need constant direction and supervision. That being said: You still follow instructions :)

Here is a little detail about what you'll do:

Be involved in the end to end process of creating engaging web destinations. You'll be involved in proposals, project planning, building and the testing of applications.

Contribute to our various products and components like our Audience Experience Platform (A social media platform)

Attend technical conferences: Either as a contributor/presenter, or as an attendee.

Where?

We are based in the heart of Railtown in a trendy collaborative loft with bricks and wooden beams. We work hard, but we play hard too: We've got a Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, two giant big screens and a foozeball table. We also work everyday to a "controlled by the people" sound system where each employee queues up music to listen to. We offer full benefits better than most Fortune 500 companies. Our compensation plan includes bonuses, etc.

How?

Slap together a fresh copy of your resume and a cover letter indicating why we you might be right for our team. Send it to mandy.eagles [at] workatplay.com

Surrey Drupal Users Group April Meetup

Drupal Social #11... What rhymes with eleven?

Well, the weekday is moving again, now to Tuesday, and while I'm at it, let move locations too!
Garrick's Head Pub
It's in the Bedford Regency, right in Bastion square. They have several of the micro-brewery offerings on tap, Pipers Pale Ale is good, but when that is as close as it gets to "Micro" one yearns for more.

Be there at 7PM, Tuesday the 31st!

Also, we won't be conflicting with the Web Posse group meeting on Wednesdays.

Cheers!
Linuxfest Northwest

Linuxfest Northwest 2009 this year will include the efforts of SeaDUG and many Vancouver drupal users. Bellingham is about 1.5hrs north of Seattle, 1 hour south of Vancouver, BC. This year we're expecting between 800-1000 attendees. There are various after parties being held on saturday night. So stick around and enjoy Bellingham! There are some cheap lodging options as well.

We're still planning the events for the drupal rooms reserved. If you have ideas, please comment! While most of the presentation spots have filled, we still have a few spots open. We'll post a list of presentations here as soon as its available. Deadline is April 1st to get presentations in.

In addition to Drupal, linuxfest covers all aspects of open source technology around the northwest and the world. This year, Jon 'Maddog' Hall, executive director of Linux International will be our keynote speaker.

We also need booth hosts. We will have a large 12' booth. Rumor has it there will be some t-shirts to give away ;-)

Help for a Photographer Friend (Drupal 6)

Hi all,

A friend of mine is getting into Drupal and is far more advanced than I am with customizing the system using PHP. I'd asked someone else I know with some advanced Drupal experience this question, but they weren't able to help me either, so I thought I'd post it here on his behalf.

He's a photographer, and takes both PG and more adult photographs. He wants to be able to display content based on the EXIF data in his photographs, e.g., front page, or no? Horizontal, or vertical orientation (which will determine how it displays in the theme) and to use the copyright date for on-the-fly copyright date rendering.

In his own words:

As a really straightforward example that still stymies me: I'm using a new cck content type 'picture', to which I'm attaching exif fields height and width and a 'computed field' for orientation that determines whether the picture (which may have undergone extensive cropping/manipulation since the tags were first written) is vertically or horizontally aligned. (square pix are vertical, for my purposes.)

I want the computed field to determine if the numeric content of field 'height' is greater than or equal to the numeric content of field 'width', and to assign the value of field 'orientation' appropriately.

the muddle below doesn't seem to accomplish this.

if $node->field_exif_exifimageheight[0]['value'] >= $node->field_exif_exifimagewidth[0]['value']
$node_field[0]['value'] ='vertical';
else
$node_field[0]['value'] ='horizontal';

There are probably far cleaner means to do this. One would be to add some bits to the batch functions of the imagefield import module, where image height, width and other exif particulars are already being collected. Imagefield import also seems to talk to taxonomy, and my fondest hope would be to insert model names, keywords, and gallery assignments into relevant vocabularies per picture at the import stage. Looking under the hood in imagefield import just gives me a headache, though.

Where should he go from here?

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

LinuxFest Northwest

Our Seattle Drupal Group has decided that instead of holding a Drupal Camp in April, we will instead hold our spring camp at LinuxFest Northwest. That will be held on April 25-26 in Bellingham, http://linuxfestnorthwest.org

We plan to hold an "un-conference", "bar-camp", or whatever else you want to call it (self-organized conference) on the Sunday of LinuxFest. We encourage everyone who knows something about Drupal to come and be ready to particpate. We'll have 3 rooms available, and paper/pens to organize who will go where to talk about what. This format worked really well for us at our mini-camp in February, and we're excited to do it again.

On Saturday, there will be more formal presentations about Drupal. If you would like to present, go to the LinuxFest web site and submit your presentation -- the LinuxFest folks will organize these talks into a schedule. At time of writing, someone is already proposing a talk about images in Drupal, and someone else is giving an introduction to Drupal. All Drupal topics are welcome; the audience at LinuxFest tends to be people who are steeped in open-source technology, but they may not be all that up on Drupal.

We will also have a room available on Saturday as a "Drupal Clinic", where people can come with their Drupal sites they are working on, and ask questions. We are hoping that Drupal experts will be willing to spend an hour or two in that room to answer questions. If you would like to staff that room, please reply here.

We'll probably have a more formal Drupal camp in the fall (October or so).

See you in Bellingham!

Linuxfest Northwest 2009 -- Vancouver participation?

Hi folks,

I'm working with SeaDUG and Linuxfest Northwest to bring together a mini drupalcamp at Linuxfest Northwest 2009. Its April 25-26th, and last year we had one room for one day, with every session packed. This year I'm hoping to get at least one room for two days, and if there is demand for it, we can move to two rooms as well.

We're looking for those who wish to present, come mingle with other F/OSS people, etc. The event is free, and we have room for non-profit exhibitors (free), and commercial exhibits.

More information: http://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org/

You can find me on irc in #drupal-seattle, I also joined up in #drupal-vancouver. @japerry

If you have any ideas, proposals, let me know!

Thanks,
Help with Webform Module

Hi Vancouver,
I have a client that wants to add some extra functionality to the Webform module and I was wondering if any of you had any experience with this. I am trying to create depended questions. The survey has about 15 questions but each question has about five subquestions which are conditional to the first answer.

For example, question 2. is a 'yes' or 'no' question and if they answer 'yes' they need to choose from a variety of options but if they answer 'no' they can move on to question 3. The customer wants the sub questions to be invisible unless required.

Do you guys have any experience or suggestions.

Chris

Agenda

Geo Data and Mapping in Drupal 6

Mack is researching the current state of of geo location and mapping tools in drupal 6, and will report his findings to the group. Geolocation of groups, listings and people (as well as mapping them) are some of toolkit we can use to provide geo-relevant content to users. Mack will review the version 3x of the location API, and look at the state of Gmap and KML intengraiton as well as exploring the new NiceMaps module for displaying the data.

Mack Hardy is the founder of Affinity Bridge, and has been building web based technology in java, perl and PHP for over 12 years. His specialties are information architecture and analysis, managing production environments and managing development teams. Mack is a regular and respected presenter in the Vancouver Drupal community.

The easiest way to keep up with conference goings-on is just to subscribe to the news feed:

http://www.openwebvancouver.ca/news/feed

Update: I've just confirmed that Angie Byron ( aka webchick ) will be speaking at the open Web Conference! Angie will be doing 2 talks, including a keynote.

Calgary Open Source Systems Festival

Simple post to promote COSSFEST. Hopefully the Vancouver community can send people to Calgary. Any one wishing to speak contact Shawn Grover (sgrover@open2space.com). I'm already planning to do a site building presentation but given some volume I'm sure we can get a Drupal track going.
