Hi guys. Does not seem to be much movement in this group right now, so I thought I would post.

I'm Mike, I play a resto druid and prot pally over on Misha US.

I am currently working on a project that will give groups, IE raiding alliances made up of smaller guilds, the tools to coordinate and communicate together. http://wehatepugs.com/

A few projects I am working on in relation to this is working out a module to parse the new in game calendar so a leader can post an event in game, then simply upload the lua into a drupal website and have it create the events automatically. At this point the dev's have been very quit and we do not know if we will be able to automate the creation of events from the lua into the game.

I look forward to your feedback, and if you have any ideas, or would like to be involved in any way please let me know.

As a follow-up to the discussion in http://groups.drupal.org/node/7694 and I don't think it is right to start off a new group for every new MMORPG I'll post it here. If you feel this is not ok, please let us discuss about a possible start of new group for generic mmorpgs.

I started a new Google Code Project with a set of useful tools and modules built around Drupal and Bebot, a ChatBot in PHP to acquire data for the Site from Age of Conan.

Currently the following features are available with this:

Automatically granting access to valid guild members to the forum
Display the City's build progress on the page
Sync professions to Bebot, so it can be displayed in the Game
EqDKP Support for your site (this is basically the code from Indemnity83 and SQP, modified to use Relational DKP)
Display currently in Game online Users on your site
Remind users in Game that they should register on the forums (this is a bebot module)

This is the first site I have attempted with Drupal, and as such I am sure some things were not done in the standard or proper way, but I just wanted to show what was possible using this platform. The deco theme was used and modified to our liking, so the end result is what you are seeing.

The main things on this site are:

drupal
vbulletin - We already have an established forum, and it seems much more robust than drupal's offering. So that is going to stay in place.
eqdkp - Not visible to anyone except who adds raids and who got what loot, but the database feeds the "latest loot" link javascript call

The main thing that brings traffic on the site (aside from our forum) is probably the user blogs, and then right after that the video section. I was a bit confused at first how to organize the sites content with drupal. Taxonomy is not really used at all except for the image gallery because it is required. I couldn't think of a real reason to use it since our content is so limited and specific. Boss kills, recruiting, and general announcements of things the guild is doing is pretty much a complete summary of what gets posted. Instead, I've used the book module to organize the content. The name of the raid instance is the book title, the boss kill "story" content type articles get added to the book as pages.

For the videos, I didn't see anything similar to what I wanted for videos offered by drupal, so I just do a HTML snippet for the video pages for the divx web player to load. On each video page I have put a Fivestar rating so people can rate the movies that get put up. Comments as well since sometimes people ask about how a particular boss is done, or what music is used in a video.

Itemstats does the mouseover items. I don't like linking to outside sites aside from the initial item pull or loading of scripts.

I would like to post ventrilo recordings and other things involving audio, so hopefully the Audio module starts working for Drupal 6 soon. The more I mess with this, the more I wish I knew how to program. There is such a wealth of information available from the WoW Armory in structured XML format that could be fed into a mysql table. A roster that is built from a scheduled cron job every few days would be one thing that could be made to look very nice with classes and specs separated out. I guess a positive thing of more people using drupal for their guild website is more utilities like that being developed.

Suggestions and feedback is welcome. Just thought I would share what I was able to do with Drupal.

Item linking filter module in the works

Edit: There is now an offical project page on d.o. The module is nearly ready for a beta release, so the more people that test it, the better.

I have created a filter module for 6.x that in it's current state will allow posts containing:

[item]1234[/item]

-or-

[item]Earthwarden[/item] (for example)

to be converted to WoW DB links. The javascript for mouseover popups is embedded, and results are cached for performance.

The module is designed as a filter engine, so if somebody wants to use Wowhead or Thottbot instead of WoW DB, they simply need to copy the wowdb.inc file, and modify the hooks to work for the desired item database.

Drupal DKP

I've started working on getting DKP into our site. For now EQDKP is actually managing the DKP, and Drupal is simply querying the database directly but its a start. I'll keep things up to date in this Discussion on the progress as much as I can.

Guild Website Hosting for Fun and Profit?

I was in the middle of my 3 hour car drive from NYC to Boston today, when I had the "OMG DRUPAL + MMORPG GUILD MGMT = HAPPINESS" epiphany...something I reckon most of the people in this group have already experienced. All of these different ideas flooded my mind...managing guild members, raid scheduling, forums, notifications, character item integration via XML feeds for ALL mmorpgs....not just WoW. Maybe I could combine my old passion of gaming and new passion of drupal into a an actual job!

Then, I was saddened to learn that there already seems to be quite a few companies that already do this:

One in particular, guildlaunch.com looks like it might actually be a drupal site.

So, is the market saturated with this kind of service already? Is there something unique a new company could bring to the table?

I mean...I fantasized about quitting my job tomorrow just so I could do this. Does anyone else share this passion? Would anyone else be interested in doing something like this?

Well, I sat down this morning and started making the module multi-user capable. Here's a preview post.

Two things come to mind, at the moment. First, where the heck is my Drupal CVS password? (it's been ages since I contributed. I think flickr.module was for 4.0 or so :). Secondly, what shall we do with the ex-Parrot that is PHP4? Usually I kick, scream, and insult when people insist on running it, but for a public module I might have to phase out SimpleXML, which is PHP5 only, and use something a tad more oldtimer friendly.

www.downfallguild.org is a very active, highly trafficked guild website for the guild "Downfall" on the server "Gorgonnash". We've recently made the plunge into drupal and are blown away at the potential. I offer up this site as a sort of "sketchpad" for what any and all in this group would like to see. I will try to keep active on how we've achieved certain functionality. We have 3 active drupal developers with admin access on the site, all working to integrate various functionality.

We've currently submitted a project to drupal that was developed "in the name of the guild": http://drupal.org/project/cgiirc

This is a slick little irc module that allows us to use irc while at work through the guild site :)

Big things we're actively working on:
--itemstats rollovers, preferably with the wowhead theme
--full raid scheduling and sign up
--videos feature section
--much more integration with the armory.

I would encourage anyone interested to join our guild site and poke around. We need any and all feedback we can to turn this into a possible installation profile to make it much easier for future guild sites to dive right into high quality, Drupal-based WoW community.

WoW or any MMO?

Just saw this group up and right away my first thought is how nice it would be to see some guild management tools as modules for Drupal.

My secondary thought is why just WoW? For me, I'm finding myself just about to depart from Blizzard's MMO and about to take my entire guild en masse over to Age of Conan in the spring. General guild tools (scheduling, roster, DKP, etc.) are what I'm looking for.

I don't want to hijack things here, but just giving my $0.02 that basic guild website functionality would be great, especially if it's not specific to one singular game.
