Couple methods could exist for this, probably some better than others. Not sure if a specific event-purchasing module exists that could even limit the quantity of tickets sold so you don't overbook.

One quick method comes to mind (very simplified)
1. Create a product for each venue type with its own price and description. (You can even create a node to "group" the related products by show)
2. When the event day comes (or shortly after), simply disable/remove the event product so it can't be purchased further.

Quickly browsing the Drupal event related modules, I'd suggest looking into:
Event (strongly recommended) [http://drupal.org/project/event]
in combination with "Fee" that can tie into a subdomain based Event site [http://drupal.org/project/fee]

I'm not convinced the 'fee' module is appropriate for you since it appears its based on an event-based site, requiring you to have a subdomain site for each event -- doesn't sound too flexible to me but might be a basis of code for you if you have experience with some module writing.

I know the above isn't a final solution, more like a starting point. Hope it helps and good luck!

CiviEvent in CiviCRM

You could also always take a look at the CiviEvent component of CiviCRM. http://www.CiviCRM.org/

It was originally designed more for non-profits/NGO's but then an event is an event. The CiviEvent component is still early in development but would give you a good starting point, and the folks at CiviCRM would appreciate any improvements that you could give back.

Be warned that versions after 1.8 require PHP 5.x (I forget the exact release, but at least 5)
