We are seeking an experienced drupal programmer to fix bugs and implement feature requests across three recently developed drupal sites (each composed of a public and a password-protected site and using the same customized drupal code base).

The customized code base can be configured by progressive communities of interest to support collaborative advocacy media campaigns.

Map Video files to Archive.org

We've watched the beginnings of all the video files and have indicated which video filename belongs to which session. We need to map the Archive.org container to the video file and session. Once the mapping is done, we can hand out passwords to the Drupalcon2008 user Archive.org account, and the server which is hosting the files.

1. Add Archive.org container URLs beside the video files below

2. Provide your public keys to David Strauss: david at fourkitchens dot com. He will give you access to move the files from his server to Archive.org

(1) Login at Archive.org with the given user/pass.
(2) Navigate to the item's URL on Archive.org.
(3) Click "Edit item" > "Item Manager" > "checkout - edit item's files (non XML)"
(4) Read the FTP directions to get the numeric part of the server domain name, and directory.
(5) cd ~/videos
(6) ~/upload.sh [numeric part of server name] [directory] [video filename]
(7) Check the item back in.
(8) Mark the file below as uploaded

replace the placeholder text with the description as on boston.drupalcon.org
add tags drupal; drupalcon; drupalconboston2008

Possible issues:
-Disk Full: Move on to the next one, we'll come back to it later
-"Can't open that file: No such file or directory" For some reason ftp cannot enter the directory. Move on. Hopefully if we come back later it will be sorted out.
-Connection timed out: Try again, it should work.

Drupalcon Boston 2008 Video Encoding Project

I am hoping that we will be getting started on video transfer this week. If that is the case, encoding should be ready to begin sometime end of next week. Please post the following information in this thread:

Your machine(s) specs - processor/memory/OS

Your internet connection specs - up and down

How many hours per week you can devote to encoding

Do you have the ability to edit DV content prior to encoding - this is primarily to trim beginning and end of video along with boosting gain if needed.

ORIGINAL POST

First I would like to say thank you to all of the volunteers that made recording audio and video at Drupalcon Boston possible. Without you we would not have captured the 150+ hours of audio video that we did. Thank you!

This post will outline the game plan for getting all of the raw audio and video footage moved from computers and tapes to the Drupal community. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. I am not a professional A/V person, so I am very interested in suggestions and comments about how we can do things better or different.

TO ALL OF THOSE WHO RECORDED AUDIO and VIDEO BUT DID NOT LEAVE IT WITH THE CONFERENCE ORGANIZERS

There were several people at Drupalcon who were recording audio and video from the soundboards and various A/V drops. Please post in this thread, what sessions you recorded, the approximate length and if you have posted the raw files to a site somewhere where can the files be found. We would like to arrange for a copy of the RAW files to remain with the Drupal community for future use if possible.

PLANS FOR RECORDED VIDEO FOOTAGE
Below is the step-by-step plan that has been put in place to deal with the video shot during Drupalcon Boston.

1) All of the raw video footage (90+ Hours) is currently on MiniDV tapes and will be transfered over the next couple of weeks to several SATA drives.

2) Once that footage is transfered to the drives, those drives will be made available to the internet.

3) Individual volunteers will be solicited to edit and encode the video to a standardized format for republishing to Archive.org.

The following are issues that need to be addressed and ideas from the community would be appreciated.

1) What would be the best way to distribute the raw DV footage? Due to the large size of the files, it has been suggested that a torrent system might be a viable solution because of the ease in resuming broken connections. Or a download manager of some kind could be used along with just raw single person downloads. What do you all think?

2) Once each volunteer has downloaded their session for encoding, what would be the best standard format for encoding the video. Keep in mind that all video will be uploaded to Archive.org, so their workflow and systems should be taken into account.

Boston DrupalCon is over, Stay Involved!

DrupalCon just finished wrapping up and it has been an amazing week. Over 900 people attended over 50 sessions and over 30 Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions. In the rooms and halls you could see knowledge virally spreading throughout the attendees as well as connections being made. DrupalCon may be over but don't let the knowledge sharing stop here.

This event was put on by people just like everyone here on G.D.O, don't let events like this stop! YOU are keeping this going!

Sunday meetup and rehearsal for audio/video archiving

Calling all audio/video archivers: On Sunday, March 2nd at the Boston Convention & Expo Center, we'll meet up with the AV company to make sure all is well with our equipment and set up.

If you're interested in helping with audio/video recording and post-production, it would be great to meet you, find out what equipment we have available and coordinate how we are going to capture all 70+ sessions @ Drupalcon? We can also talk about feasibility of trying a live stream.*

So bring your gear and meet us in the lobby @ 4 p.m. sharp, near the security desk (to the left as you enter).

If you can't make it, don't despair. You can also meet us for setup bright and early Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. :)

If you have any of this equipment to lend it could be helpful, please bring it:

Laptop (for audio recording, video compressing and post-production),
Digital audio recorder (MP3 etc.),
Digital video camera of any type (we'll have blank MiniDV tapes on hand) and tripod,
External hard drive,
A/V cables and adapters, firewire cables, power strips and extension cords,

Boston Drupalcon showcase and case study contest

There will be a Drupal site showcase and case study contest at the upcoming Boston Drupalcon.

Submitted sites will be voted online and judged by a panel of community nominated judges and some great prizes will be awarded to the winners! This is a chance to have all your hard work creating amazing Drupal sites recognized.

Go on over to the Drupalcon Boston site to submit your favorite sites and view and vote for the best ones.

We'll also be doing a session to discuss popular, high traffic and enterprise Drupal sites and why Drupal is often the platform of choice so please join us.

Video recording, equipment, and volunteers

At past DrupalCons, we've had video recording equipment set up so that we can record sessions for posterity, and for those who couldn't make it. Let's do it again!

DRScales The main element we need to capture for each session is the audio - pictures are great, but the majority of these presentations will be viewed on the move. We must aim to provide slides synced to a good quality audio track as minimum. Anyone who has a laptop or digital recorder available to encode the audio mix of each session would be greatly appreciated.
- According to Jeff from the AV company, each room will have a Mackie mixer with RCA line outs. Projectors will have DVI output. The AV person to talk to on site will be Goose.

Cameras are great too as they can do both!

I can volunteer video equipment (camera, tapes, power, etc.)

I can volunteer audio equipment (microphones, amp, etc.)

Room logistics

How many rooms are there?
- Four session rooms and one birds of a feather room. The birds of a feather room will include two 6' projection screens and projectors in oposite corners. (The entire room can be used for birds of a feather talks but there will be two dedicated screens in the room, too.)
- All rooms have Mackie mixers with RCA outputs (probably other outputs too).

I will be providing an ftp to upload the content to relevant session titles - this means anyone with any other relevant content is welcome to upload it for inclusion - I will then be syncing the slides and adding titles before uploading the final content to archive.org/youtube/whichever looks best.
Shai I'm willing to help with the post production audio/slide-synching. Let me raise the issue: How are we going to collect the slides? Presenters can be hard to get their presentations from, mostly because they are all abuzz with talking to folks right after a session and don't won't to fuss with downloading their presentation to give to someone. Or has someone thought this through. Also: DRScales: the amount of post production you are talking about is huge. I think initially we should post audio and post slides. Maybe we can get people to volunteer to help with the postproduction work? But I think getting the raw audio and slides up at the archive.org spot would be a great contribution.
