The GEM Foundation is looking for a creative, highly motivated person interested in and experienced with graphic design and
web development to join our small international and energetic team working with passion on making GEM a success.

Who We Are: GEM is an inter national public/private initiative that is building the first global open-source model for the calculation and
communication of earthquake risk worldwide (www.globalquakemodel.org). By developing much-needed software and tools
for reliable seismic risk assessment for basic and exper t users in all regions of the world, GEM will provide necessar y input
for increased earthquake risk awareness and risk reduction activities. GEM functions as a community effort and therefore
hundreds of individuals and institutions from all over the world are involved in the development of the model and tools.

Primary Responsibilities:
* Working with the Communications & Outreach responsible on print design (brochures, reports, templates, logos, ...) in a Mac-based
environment using the Adobe suite, Quark Express, etc.
* Being responsible for the development and maintenance of the GEM website and related websites, using Drupal and other open-source
web solutions.
* Development of new tools for the website(s), web-images and other online graphic support.

Skills:

WEB DEVELOPMENT:
* Demonstrated proficiency with XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and web standards
* Experience and expertise with Drupal
* Familiarity with open source software and social media a plus

GRAPHIC/DIGITAL DESIGN:
* Experience in designing for print and preparing documents for press
* Experience in web design (banners, animations,…)
* Ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of logo design
* Familiarity with working with video (editing) and photo (youtube /flickr) a plus.

OTHER:
* Good communications skills in English, the working language, are required.
* A proactive and result-oriented attitude, plus inter-personal skills in working with colleagues/supervisors complete the profile.

The GEM Foundation offers an attractive international and innovative working environment in Pavia, a modest size town in
the North of Italy located at a convenient 30 km distance from cosmopolitan Milan.

The position is open immediately, full-time, for one year, with the possibility of extension.
