DC Doc sprint

As some of you may know, I've been neck-deep in Drupal's Doc team work. The doc sprints that we have had at the last two Drupalcons have been a ton of fun and very productive. I'd like to run a local sprint down in DC sometime before the end of the year. The basic idea that I am thinking right now is to find a location that will let us camp out with wifi for about 4-6 hours on a weekend. I'd be there the entire time but others could just drop by as they had time. I'd be there to help folks get situated, find docs tasks that they find interesting and generally answer questions.

I don't have a date/venue yet. This post is for two purposes right now:
1) gauge the interest to get a sense of the size of venue to find
2) see if anyone has space they would donate or recommendations of where we could go (I'm assuming in the 10-20 people range right now)

In terms of venue needs, the basic requirements would be chairs and tables/desks for people to work comfortably and free wifi access. I'd also like to be able to bring in snacks and drinks. Something that is easily accessible on metro would be great. That's about it really.

Note that you don't need to know how to write well to help with docs. We have tons of things that need help that don't involved writing at all. We even have coding work we need, so devs can play too. ;-) People who are new to Drupal or do not speak English as their first language are particularly valuable and highly encouraged.

So, please feel free to discuss, volunteer or ask questions to help me get a better sense of what to plan. This'll be my first time planning a stand-alone sprint like this so all thoughts and ideas are welcome. :-)

Website Objective
Our website will provide a service to link teachers and learners. Teachers who wish to teach private lessons will be able to post and manage their profile and information regarding the lesson (e.g. qualification, course description, lesson fee, lesson time etc) on our website.
Learners will be able to search teachers and contact the teachers through our website to arrange lessons.
Forum and “Yahoo answer” like function on our website will enable teachers and learners to interact.

Functional requirement
We would like to utilize Drupal as the backbone of our website.

1) REGISTRATION- Allow users and teachers to register

2) Google map integration
It displays where teachers will be conducting lessons. Addresses will be provided by the teachers upon registration.

3) Email notification to members (e.g when a user leaves a comment/ change of password etc)

4) Member profile page
Teachers: allow teachers to manage their profile and indicate lesson information (e.g. qualification, course description, lesson fee, lesson time, lesson location). . A list of answers they provided in Yahoo answer like function will be displayed as well.

Learners: allow them to manage their profile.

5) DRUPAL CALENDAR
Teachers can input their available times/days they can teach and user can then click on the day they want to be taught

8) Tracking
Implementation of tracking software (such as Google Analytics) to help us better understand and measure web visitor behavior and improve web site performance.

Selected service provider will be required to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA). A more detail description will be provided upon request by serious applicants/consultants

Overview

Ripple Effects Interactive (REI) is looking for an independent contractor or service to provide short-term (30 - 90 days) help with a client’s Drupal-based social networking web site. The position will require approximately 20-30 hours a week, possibly more.

Project Description

We are redesigning a social networking website that is currently using Drupal 4.6.2. We would like to continue to leverage this version of Drupal and essentially need to apply a new GUI, update the navigation schema, and add some new custom features such as:

Customized summary nodes where we’ll aggregate content to specific landing pages (news & stories)
Development of new pages for details of news & stories

To date, REI has completed UE, interface design, and template coding and can provide the following:

Link to existing site before development begins
Approved wireframes for redesigned site in either Visio or .PDF format
Coded templates written in XHTML 1.0 Transitional and .CSS 2.0

Qualifications

Knowledge of Drupal Theming and experience with the creation of page templates and node templates
Basic Unix skills

Lets find out who we are in the Pittsburgh Area. Everyone share a little about how you are using Drupal. Post your information as a comment to this posting and update it every few months as your interests and abilities change. Here is who I am.

My first site is http://Brain2Behavior.com I am using this as supplemental support for the classes I teach.
I teach Psychology at Robert Morris University and am also a certified massage therapist.

Knowledge of Drupal: Started in December 2007. Able to do multisites using subdomains, symlinks, and independent databases. Comfortable using contributed modules.
Knowledge of php: Can copy and paste someone else's code.
Drupal Version: 6.1 Since I am just learning, I decided to learn version 6 and will learn the Contributed Modules as they become available in 6.

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Preferred Browser: Firefox 3
Hosting site: ace-host.net, pHp 5.2, MySQL 4.1 cPanel access for maintenance and CyberDuck.app for ftp

Future plans:
Social Networking, Organic Groups, Ecommerce.
Learn how to use .htaccess instead of symlinks for multisite.
Begin learning theming using the Zen Theme.
Learn how to have one piece of content appear on multiple pages. (I want to have the boiler plate parts of my class syllabi at one location then merge them with the class/semester specific pieces of the syllabi.)
Make it possible for students to edit their own Book from a template. Only that one user has access to modify it but anyone can read it.
