Scalable map of site content

I can't believe I only just found this group. In case you didn't get it through Planet Drupal, at CivicActions I have been working hard on the Witness Hub Map. It is a mashup of google maps with the Hub with enhancements that make it appealing, interactive, fun and (almost) infinitely scalable.

Currently you can see the map has a large amount of markers on it and it has a full-screen mode and switcher. I've just implemented a delayed marker loader that loads 4 markers per 1 second (or other rate) which keeps the map usable and responsive while loading 100s or 1000s of markers.

We have more exciting developments in the works and I plan to contribute the code in the near future. I may also be presenting this at DrupalCon.

I'd be interested in feedback and the best way to contribute this.

This is an amazing project - I'm really interested to learn more about how you developed it. The full screen mode and delayed marker loader are both excellent features.

I read on your page on DrupalCon that you're contributing it to the GMap module - could you add an update here when you've done that?

Cheers!

Sure. I don't think that

Sure. I don't think that session proposal got into DrupalCon, so it's not a priority for me now, but it is something I still plan to do.

I'm working on this with Bevan to contribute it as a module/addon. I'll update here with progress...

Love it! The delayed loading really makes sense.

This is great stuff. I'd be interested in finding out if there's generic module being developed for dynamically updating maps with different types of data, overlays, etc. live feeds for updating rss feeds

And this map for Witness - At Causecact we are also working with them. They are a fantastic organization. We are helping them raise donations via our website for free. Can I somehow embed their map onto their profile on Causecast? http://www.causecast.org/org/witness I'm sure they'd dig it.
