Thank you, we have selected a vendor for this job. We appreciate all the responses and are pleased with the community of support!

Original subject: Site conversion request

We are looking for a Drupal expert to do a basic 40-page static corporate site conversion for us. The major work is a custom (or customized) Drupal theme and a redesigned dynamic home page. The rest is a basic conversion of a small static site. We will run the deployed site in-house. (http://www.puresend.com/)

We are a 6-year-old ASP whose operation is entirely Linux based (primarily Debian, a little CentOS) and which has appropriate graphic design assets (Illustrator versions of logos, outline fonts etc.) available as necessary.

Complete details after the break.

  • Not necessary to install nor configure Drupal, MySQL. Installation target:
    • Drupal 6
    • Debian r4.0 Etch, x86(_64) using standard packages:
      • Apache 1.3.34
      • MySQL 5.0.32
      • PHP 5.2.0
  • Static site conversion. Originally built in Dreamweaver.
    • ~40 static pages
      • From ~7 Dreamweaver templates of 3 basic kinds
    • ~10 downloadable PDFs
    • Full site source will be provided
  • Custom Drupal 6 theme with a similar look & feel to current site
    • Not necessary to be exact, just spiritually similar
    • Important:
      • Use of corporate colors, logos, and (where appropriate) font
      • Lightweight feel
      • Extensible design
      • Two-tier navigational menu (maybe even 3-tier)
        • Not hard coded, without graphical assets
      • Login/admin stuff hidden from non-logged-in users
        • (available on a separate login page)
    • Not required:
      • Use of current navigational images & rollovers
      • Comment features
      • Ability for non-company-employees to have/create user accounts
    • Re-use or customization of existing modules (with appropriate licensing rights) is a plus
  • New home page based thematically upon the original but with dynamic content support. We anticipate three dynamic areas:
    • Left sidebar (multiple items)
    • Top right corner (single item)
    • Latest news (bottom) with blog-style information
  • Full audit logging and change tracking enabled
  • We do not feel that it should be necessary to create custom modules nor modify base Drupal code for this proposal.
  • We do not feel that it should be necessary to use much new custom graphics aside perhaps from rendered corporate font text (but we could be wrong). Re-use of the current stock graphics is now preferred.
  • Allow for some future extensibility, even if it is not implemented.
    • Client accounts with access to pages not otherwise available to the public (think online documentation)
    • Multi-tier corporate-user security (e.g., CEO edits everything, developer just edits online documentation, etc.)
    • Employee-only content (e.g., corporate policies)
  • Delivery to us:
    • MySQL database dump for loading
    • Diffs from base packages (themes, modules, core code, etc.), including the original package (version and source URL)
    • TAR file of new files
  • Timeframe: Completion by March 1, 2008
  • Final payment will be made after a code review which will cover:
    1. Secure coding practices (if any custom PHP was written or modified)
    2. Clean, modern, standards-compliant use of (X)HTML and CSS
    3. Extensible implementation (if custom PHP was written)

This of course does not preclude interim payments, just the final payment.

  • Contribution back to the community: Except for custom corporate theme and graphical "assets," we are quite open to this. (Would we base our environment on Debian if we weren't?)
  • Please provide cost, effort and calendar time estimates in any response.
