2006-07-28 19:00 - 22:00 EST My good buddy chx is coming to visit from Hungary at the end of July (the 27th - 31st). Let's show him a good time by doing some kind of hacking session some place in town. Any ideas on good venues, and anyone interested in coming?
How I picture this working is all the Montréal Drupal developer-types all meet at some public place with their laptops and do some pair programming, bug fixing, etc. I don't have the money to sponsor folks, but maybe we could all chip in and get some pizzas, etc.
If you're interested, please DON'T sign up to this event below, but instead go click the "sign up" button on Omar's Montreal Drupal Developers Meetup event.
(P.S. Cross-posting this to the Ottawa group)

oh no.....
I'll be in san fran talking about girls and blogs until I am blue in the face.
I get back after the first or else I would totally be down : (
sorry, I hope you all have good time.
Ah, that's too bad. :(
Well, next time then! ;)
Sponsorship and timing...
This is good news.
I discussed this with the other Koumbit folks and we should be able to help "sponsor" some pizza and/or refreshments.
I would however, prefer if we could meet earlier so that we have more time to hack stuff. So I'd suggest either earlier on the Friday, or all of Saturday or both (e.g. a more discussion/planning origented session on Friday and a hack fest on the Saturday).

... and what To Do?
It would probably also be a good idea to have a few ideas ahead of time of what people would be interested in working on. e.g. a wiki page? comments/posts here? comments/posts elsewhere?
Sure, I'm TOTALLY up for an all-day (or even two) event...
That would be awesome!! :D
In terms of planning, probably comments here would work just as well (I need to subscribe to this group so I don't miss replies :P).
In terms of an agenda, I've asked Dries to post a list of stuff he'd ideally like to get it before the code freeze (1.5 months away). Here are some ones I know of that are high on the list:
What we could do is maybe have everyone who shows up divide into "teams" to work on different parts. I could offer to head up the Installer team, since I worked on some of that initial code and have done some research into it. Maybe chx takes CCK (I'll talk to him before I volunteer him for stuff :P), someone else takes X, etc.
And, ideally...
It would be great if we could do a lot of the preliminary planning ahead of time, so that when we have "face-time" together we can just hit it really hard.
Great... let's aim for both 28th and 29th.
So the evening of 28th and all day 29th... Koumbit has a small budget for some drinks/food/other for the occasion. We just have to decide on (a) good place(s) to do it. It might also be cool to try to get our hands on a projector for the occassion.
Awesome! :D
I'm less enthusiastic about the idea of a projector, since I'd love for this to be more hacking-focused, but it might come in handy. Some place with whiteboards or something would probably be cool, too.
Are there any school campuses or the like that would be open for this kind of thing?
I'll edit the post above and point them at your actual "event" posting cos it's kind of confusing having two "event" types for people to sign up to. I probably should've made mine a story.. sorry. ;(
Thanks...
"I'll edit the post above and point them at your actual "event" posting cos it's kind of confusing having two "event" types "... ooops... yeah I just noticed that... thanks.
I'll try to find a good place and i'll let you know as soon as I do. In the meantime, everybody is welcome to suggest places.

Sounds great
CCK is now Jaza's patch but surely he won't mind if we love it a bit.
But both CCK and Install might be in core by then.
I am sure we won't get bored. If needed, we can do some form API betterment ;)
Top 6 patches
Here are the top 6 patches that Dries would like to see make core:
Providing some of these don't get committed before the end of the month, this would likely be a good way to frame at least some of the hacking activities. :)
You had also mentioned "Internationalization for core"...
...in another comment. To me this is a crucial aspect that needs attention for Drupal to be a truly universal solution and there is plenty or work left to do on i18n... especially for it to get into core. Anyway, I'd like to keep on the list of possibilities.
