Is there a Drupal moodle port (LMS distribution) project

dugh's picture

Moodle is great, but I'm still surprised by some of the clunkiness and bugs in it. It seems like it would work better and be more extensible if "ported" (not exactly) to run on top of the drupal platform.

I was just wondering if there is already a Drupal LMS install profile or bundle available. I see the active work being done on the drupal quiz and gradebook modules.

If there isn't, then perhaps some folks might want to see if there any funding for such an effort, too.

Thanks

*I see Dwight Farris at U. Arizona has done a bit on this (droodle: drupal + moodle), but nothing shared publicly: http://wiki.classroom20.com/CR20LIVE+JUL172010 http://oia.arizona.edu/content/dwight-farris

I've talked to several people who either have built this or are in the process of building it. Since there's a lot of money to be made in it's creation I don't see anyone giving it away any time soon..

Course Handbook

I wrote a system called Course Handbook a while back that integrates Drupal and Moodle.

The design spec was to provide a easy to use system in Drupal that allowed lecturers to put all of their course outlines and documents into one place, have them checked and ratified/approved etc, that would then allow for easier publishing into the paper Course Handbook. Obviously it also provides the online Course Handbook as well.

Previously this entire workflow was done using Word documents and email, with the layout done manually in InDesign. The layout would still be done in InDesign, but largely automated by the Drupal side.

It is designed for a dual sector (Vocational/Higher Ed) Australian institutional environment.

There are also modules for updating Moodle based on the Course Handbook data.

You can check out both side of the equation at these 2 URLs:

Drupal instance : http://wadeye.batchelor.edu.au/ofcourse/
Moodle instance : http://wadeye.batchelor.edu.au/skadoodle/

if anyone is interested further in the modules contact me through my profile page at drupal.org

Check out Eduglu (http://eduglu.com/).
It's a Drupal distribution for social learning, based on OG/Context/Features/Spaces.

We are working on a community version of http://www.ethosce.com/ and are interested in beta testers as soon as that happens.

There's a short description here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/63183#comment-200738

There are some YouTube demo videos here to give you a sense: http://www.youtube.com/user/dlcsolutions

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome - we're happy to work with other people where we can find ways to do that.

Hello scottrigby,

I'm very interested in testing out the community version of EthosCE. I'm an intermediate Drupal developer working at Ana G. Mendez Virtual University from Puerto Rico and i might be able to suggest some ideas, contribute code or compatible modules. Please let me know when its available.
