Hello!

I already have a news website built on Drupal, but now o work on another news website and at this point i have a problem...
What i need is to display a tree of terms like this:
News
--Industry
--Technology
X
--YY
--ZZ...
"News" and "X" are terms in a vocabulary. "Industry" and "Technology" are therms in same vocabulary but the have as parent the "News" term.
When i go to /news (the path alias of the "News" term) i want there to be list of all sub-terms of this term.
Another posibility will be to display teasers of the nodes in "Industry" and "Technology".
So i want the term "News" act like a page and display its sub-terms.
Can some one more experienced tell me how this can be done?

Thanks

I think http://drupal.org/project/taxonomy_menu will do the job for you

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. That can work but i need the main vocabulary show as a menu and have the main terms and sub-terms as links of the menu. I didn't found any option to select the menu i want the links to show in (i do not want this links in Navigation).
I will try take a look at the code... a solution can be to patch this module...

Once the terms are in your

Once the terms are in your navigation menu, you can move them to a new menu.
This will take them out of the navigation menu, and will allow you grater control.

Hi. Yes, i use that for now.

Hi. Yes, i use that for now. I have tested another module named SiteMenu (http://drupal.org/project/sitemenu). The problem is that it do not colapse the inactive parents... all parents are expanded.

Taxonomy Menu will work

Once you have established a taxonomy structure, you can indeed use taxonomy menu to enable the categories you wish. You can either display hierarchies through taxonomy module, or you can use Drupal's menu system to create hierarchies.

I have create block regions and placed menus in these blocks using collapsiblock. The menus display as hierarchies through Drupal's menu system, but these have to be placed manually.

While this may seem to be a pain, taxonomy structures really don't grow tremendously, after you have figured out your basic section language, and adding menu items is as easy as adding categories.

If you have php or even html ability all this becomes even more manageable by placing code in the template file.

If you like, take a look at www.vineyardvoice.org. If you have any more questions, I'll be happy to respond.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Your website is verry nice and your solution is interesting too. I have 4 parent terms that inludes lots (more that 30) terms each.
Taxonomy menu + DHTML Menus make a good job, but the links are put in the Navigatin menu... i need the vocabulary display as a separate menu (a separate box).

Regions

lowVocal's picture

check out regions in the handbook... regions and blocks can manage menus in a block --
Regions are established in your template file. once established you can then move the menus around.

without knowing your application and structure, it's hard to say what's best. a tabbed mini panel that aggregates your large catalogue of names may work to reduce clutter... you'll likely have to piece together several strategies to get what you're after in a clean navigation.

Hi. I will work on this. I

Hi. I will work on this. I have many regions already defined and i will make some for the menus too.
I think i will make blocks for all the 7 parents and maybe i will hide the items in a div and put some javascript to show this divs on mouse-over... i will try do this on the mirror instalation.

A simpler way?

Hi lordex

Check out a site I built (which still waits for content) that I think achieved what you need without anything more than the use of a few modules, no really complex stuff, and let me know if it's what you're after, if so I'll tell you which mods to use. www.morethanoil.com

Hi!

Yes, that is what i wanted... The drop-down menu is verry nice and something like that i want to make.
On the website will be all about cars and car history.

Here are the modules

ZaphMann's picture

OK - I'm using none of the complex stuff CCK blocks etc, just a few add on menu modules:
Taxonomy Super Select 5.x-1.5-1
Taxonomy Menu 5.x-1.x-dev
slicedmenu 5.x-1.0
SimpleMenu 5.x-3.2

also other modules which may come into play:
Pathauto 5.x-1.2 (needed?)
DHTML Menus 5.x-0.7 (makes side menu expand or collapse)

In core the relevant enabled are:
Taxonomy 5.2
Path 5.2
Menu 5.2

I tried out dozens of other methods, all too complex or unreliable
and I am not a php coder - these are straight use modules.
