Let's Make a Go of It

After getting a chance to talk Drupal and WebDev with some folks earlier this week I really want to see if we can keep this ball rolling. I like staying local (not that there is anything wrong with Berkeley, their DUG is pretty cool!), but as Mark was pontificating... it's nice to see what we've got going in this side of the hill.

So shout it out! Speak Up! Use that little comment link that we are all so familiar with.

Is Danville out of the way?
Would Dublin or P-town be better?
Wednesday good/bad?
Afternoon better/worse?
Any offers to lead a discussion, know of someone who would be?

Let's hear it.

Vested Interest Website

Client:
Vested Interest

Task:
new website - their first website

Planning Summary:
TIME TO START USING DRUPAL 6 !!!
clear, quick, expandable. Something that they could input their own photos, text, change artists, change music selections, and add as they felt.

Design & Direction:
This time I wanted something a little more web 2.0, and they loved it. Colors are manly, yet inviting.

Launched:
July 12, 2008

Site Link:
http://www.vestedinterestband.com

Drupal Modules:
Pathauto
Token
PNG fix (still working on this one)
jQ
jQ Bridge
jQery Media
CCK, filefield w/(image, imagecache)
Imagecache
ImageAPI
Frequently Asked Questions
Views

Drupal Highlights:
Working without imagefield (sucks)
jQ Media very cool, took me a little while, the tutorial video helped.... but remember to add a .swf player to the root install
FileField is very versicle and can be quite helpful, was better than I was expecting and I think I will be using it for some mp3's on my next build.
Frequently Asked Questions... let's hear it for open source! I was asked to add this feature to the website, and lowandbehold there it was in the modules for all to share!!! Works great, cool features, very happy with it indeed!

Outcome:
I am really happy with this site. Designing for the user to use the back end for adding their own content was really exciting and forced me to really think about some bugs, fixes, and workarounds. I spent today with the client and walked him through the back end, explained content, views, and blocks... I have it set up pretty straight forward so there are only a few options for him to use. bottom line: YEA!

Goss Fencing

Client:
Goss Fencing Owner - Michael Goss

Task:
new website - first website

Planning Summary:
simple design, honest look, photo heavy, text minimal, easy to use.

Design & Direction:
boxs, lines, large type, photo gallery, complete it fast, non-corporate style, no “web 2.0”, keep costs to a minimum.

Launched:
April 2008

Site Link:
http://www.gossfencing.com

Outcome:
As a designer and developer there are times when we tend to over think and over do things. My first two designs for Goss Fencing were big, lots of color, nested boxes, and pretty busy, After sharing each of them it became obvious to me that Mike was looking for simple, stright forward, and honest.

The final design represents a first step in getting Goss Fencing online. The design meets the companies needs, and the owner was extremely happy.

The future will include high res photos, possibly some video, and a customer feedback system.

Jarvis Music Associates - Our First Drupal Site (kinda)

In the summer of 2006, I started searching for podcasts to listen to during my morning jog. There really was not a whole bunch to choose from. I did however, get hooked on the Lullabot Podcast even though I had no idea what a Lullabot was. Hmm... I still don't. Anywhoo, Drupal 4.7 was about to be released and Dagaz was looking for a CMS solution to offer our clients. So thanks to Lullabot we decided to go with Drupal.

After a handful of test sites, we (Dagaz) developed our first Drupal site for the Tri-Valley church organ specialist Jarvis Music Associates.

I'm assuming this was the first Drupal site about Church organs.
http://www.jarvismusic.com

All comments on this 4.7 site are welcome.

Roll Call

We may have lost a little momentum... I wanted to spark it back up, and prep us for our first meeting next month :) (elsterama (hope the leg situation is better))

So, as we get ready for a real life meet-up, perhaps a bit of a roll-call here in the group forum. I was thinking:

a little about yourself

your drupal experince/knoweledge/dreams or desires

plans/projects

full-time drupler/part-time drupaler/weekend drupaler

what you are interested in getting with this group

any talents, skills, knowledge you think you want to share with your new best friends :)

Or, pretty much anything about yourself that you want to share... figure this might allow us to hit the ground running... and swing open the doors of communication... I can smell the campfire now... (not really)

In the post over in the bayarea group somebody mentioned they have a space available for use in Danville, just wanted to let everyone know that we can also use the office I'm at in downtown Walnut Creek (a little outside of the tri-valley.) Just wanted to lay that out there if a Walnut Creek location may work better.
