DC Drupal Meetup: Monday, November 16
The next DC Drupal meetup will be on Monday, November 16, at 7:00 pm at Stetson's Bar and Grill. We're breaking slightly from our standard format and instead will have two three 10 minute presentations:
-
Dave Cole and Macon Phillips from the White House New Media Team will discuss the new WhiteHouse.gov platform, which was recently rolled out on Drupal.
-
Alex Barth will demo the new Managing News, a fully open source news and data aggregator built on Drupal, and talk about some ways it's being used.
-
Jeff Walpole of Phase2 Technology will discuss OpenPublish and how this distribution is being used by publishers to launch high traffic websites
Also, we have a FREE ticket to raffle off to next month's Do It With Drupal conference - a three day, multi-level Drupal training event put on by Lullabot, who are great Drupal trainers. To enter the raffle, RSVP with "diwd" in the comments on this thread and come to the meetup. We'll print out the names of everyone who leaves a comment, put them all in a hat, and pull a winner at the meetup.
Hope to see you there!

Next DC Drupal Meetup Monday, October 19th
The next Drupal meetup will be on Monday, October 19th at 7:00 pm at Stetson's. These meetups are a great opportunity to meet other local Drupal developers and Drupal site administrators, learn about some of the cool things being done in Drupal, and just learn more about the CMS. People of all levels of Drupaldom are welcome.
As usual, we'll kick off the meetup with a round of introductions at 7:30 pm, followed by five minute lightning talks. These can be about anything Drupal related - a site or module you're working on, a question you have, or anything else that you think would be of interest to the group. If you'd like to give a talk, post about it in the comments and come ready to talk. There will be access to a flatscreen to plug into, but the internet is shaky so don't count on being able to get online. After the lightning talks, there will be lots of time for conversations and more beer.
Hope to see you there!

September Drupal Meetup on Monday, 9/14
The September Drupal meetup will take place this coming Monday (9/14) at 7:00 pm at Stetson's Bar and Grill. As usual, we'll meet at the upstairs bar at 7:00 pm and officially kick things off at 7:30 pm with introductions and a round of five minute lightning talks. These talks are your opportunity to take the floor to talk about the latest Drupal module you're building, show off a site that you built, or talk about anything else Drupal related - and learn from everyone else, of course. So far, we have two lightning talks on the schedule:
-
Matt Tucker, in town from Colorado, will talk about building a feature server to easily share features (like a blog, resource library, etc.) in Drupal. He built one for PingVision and wrote about it here.
-
News from DrupalCon Paris - we'll rope some people who attended the conference into talking about the highlights from it.
If you'd like to present, post about it in the comments or just speak up at the meetup. You'll have access to a flat screen if you want to show something off, but the internet connection is shaky so come prepared to present offline.
Hope to see you there!

DrupalCon DC inspires new unconference, we'd love your support
Hi there DC (and NoVA) Drupalers!
Back in March at Drupalcon -- there were at least a couple of BoF's where public media folks got together to talk about open source's place in public and civic media. There were representatives in those BoF's from PBS, NPR, Universities, and some local PBS/NPR stations.
August Drupal Meetup on Monday, 8/10
The August DC Drupal meetup will take place on Monday, August 10th at 7:00 pm at Stetson's. We'll get things going officially around 7:30, starting with a round of introductions so we can all get to know each other, followed by a round of 5 minute lightning talks.
Lightning talks are your chance to discuss a Drupal module, ask a question you have about Drupal to the group, show off a new site that you built, or talk about anything else Drupal related. The only rules are that you have to keep it short - 5 minutes or less - and keep it so that everyone can follow along no matter how often they code with Drupal. If you'd like to give a talk, post it in the comments and/or speak up at the meetup.
Don't be shy if you're just starting or thinking about starting with Drupal. The meetups are a great way to learn and meet people who've been in your place before.
Hope to see you there!
