DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 a Success!
Many are still recovering from the sold-out and jam-packed weekend that was DrupalCamp Dallas 2009. Over 100 developers, users, and business owners curious about the Drupal open source platform gathered in Dallas the first weekend of August for two days of Drupal! Here is what some of the attendees said...
"Definitely one of best DrupalCamps I've attended. The Dallas Drupal users are a vibrant and knowledgeable bunch." - Todd Ross Nienkerk, Four Kitchens
Web Developer | Amon Carter Museum
WEB DEVELOPER. The Amon Carter Museum seeks a Web Developer who, working with the museum’s Graphic Designer, will provide primarily standards-compliant, server-side coding (site functionality and backend systems) to develop the museum’s Web site and other online initiatives; manage, maintain, enhance, and help build upon the Web site to optimize the online user experience, increase online audiences, and advance the mission and strategic plan of the institution. Requirements include B.A.
Non-Profits and Drupal
I work at channelAustin, a non-profit 501(c)(3) in Austin that is embracing Drupal. Our current web site is a Drupal site. More importantly, we are partners in the Open Media Project and are working collaboratively with other community television stations nationally on Drupal-based tools and are establishing a new channelAustin site. My wife is a board member of a non-profit, the Save Barton Creek Association, and they have recently converted their web site to Drupal. I’m aware of a handful of other Austin non-profits using Drupal, such as Texas Impact. Within the broader open source community in Austin, there is definitely a connection to non-profits and within that connection there are Drupal developers and implementers. It’s not hard to find reports on Drupal and non-profits, like Drupal for Nonprofits, or, How to Build Social Networks for Change and How Drupal Will Save The World. I periodically learn about large national non-profits that have made the switch to Drupal.

Ideas for volunteer schedule for non-profit event
I'm helping with the website for the host committee for AA's 75th anniversary in San Antonio in 2010. The event will require around 5000 volunteers to accommodate the 60,000 recovering drunks hitting the Alamo City next July. The organizers would like for volunteers to be able to sign up for time slots for different jobs.
For example, 60 volunteers are needed for the Tuesday 1pm-3pm Hotel Lobby Greeters slot. Once 60 volunteers sign up, that slot should not be available any more, unless someone drops it.
DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 - Registration is Open!
DrupalCamp Dallas 2009 - the first ever DrupalCamp in the state of Texas! The event is August 1st and 2nd at Improving Enterprises in Dallas. Tickets are only $30 for 2 full days of panels, expert speakers, birds of a feather groups and code sprints.
The first 50 registrants will receive a free T-shirt, so why wait? View event details and register at http://www.DrupalCampDallas.org
Citizen journalism website builder | NOWCast SA
NOWCast, a citizen journalism project, needs a good looking website with a powerful and flexible CMS.
The project is co-funded by the Knight Foundation and the Alamo Area Community Information System, under the auspices of the San Antonio area Foundation.
I've described some of the attributes we're looking for here: http://nowcastsa.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/choosing-digital-printing-press/
We would love to hear proposals immediately from developers who are enthusiastic about exploring new ways to build community and journalism.
Our launch target is Sept. 9.
Our budget is small.
Austin Meetup on Wed, 6/24/09, 7 pm @ UT ACT Lab
What
It's time for another Austin Drupal Users Group Meetup! This month, Lauren Roth has invited us to join forces with the Austin Drupal Meetup Group from meetup.com and try a new venue, the UT ACT Lab.
From the meetup.com announcement:
Elegant Functionality Requires More Than Hacking Bluemarine
One of the greatest benefits of a Content Management System like Drupal, is the ability to separate the visual presentation (Theme) layer from the site logic. This is accomplished by placing your theme files in site/all/themes. The rest is up to your abilities to write & edit PHP template files, use hooks, and customize CSS for use in customizing the presentation of your site. The callbacks may seem a bit labyrinthine, but by making a sub-theme you can get well on your way.
Sound tough? It is not.
Come out next Month to learn how to get started! Lauren N. Roth will be giving short presentation to get you going and recommends bringing a Localhost installation on your own computer. Even if you are an experienced Drupal developer, write modules, and have been pimping out sites for years, let's get together, discuss best practices and demystify the design process. If you write modules, some themer needs to handle your output after they enable your module, so it would be fantastic to build a little elegance into the module itself!
Come out, ask questions, share your experiences and help others make some amazing Drupal sites!

Austin Meetup on Wed, 5/27/09, 6:30-8:45 pm @ Terrazas Branch library

What
It's time for another Austin Drupal Users Group Meetup! Several people have suggested that we devote some time specifically to beginner topics. With that in mind, we'll devote the first 45 minutes to an hour on a beginner topic. Any suggestions?
Also, let's try to have some specific intermediate to advanced presentations scheduled. If you're comfortable presenting, please reply with a topic or topics that you would be interested in covering and approximately how much time you would need for each. If we have more topics than we have time for, we can spread them out over future meetings. If there are any specific topics you'd like to see presented, please post those too.
When
Wednesday, May 27, 6:30-8:45 pm
SADUG 002 : Wysiwyg API + TinyMCE
Our DUG meeting discussed installation and configuration of the Wysiwyg API and TinyMCE. I've posted a quick guide to this installation process at http://www.clusterfuc.com/node/47

Charlotte Anne and hubby have offered to let us converge upon their humble abode this time around. Please join us as we discuss the wysiwyg api and configuration tips.
Per Charlotte ... "we can get two or three cars in the driveway, and there is plenty of street parking. We'd be happy to do some espresso or coffee, but beyond that it would be byob"
I look forward to seeing you all there.
Drupal developer needed
I need a website designer that can make simple changes in drupal and flash, host my site, and continue with support when I do not understand how to use drupal. I would prefer someone in the houston area. Can someone point me to a good company?
