San Gabriel Valley Drupal

We've been having Drupal meetups in the San Gabriel Valley since June, 2010. In addition to scheduling monthly meetups, our community holds occasional trainings and workshops and gets together for social gatherings.

Our general meetup is on the 4th Thursday of each month (2 weeks away from the SGVLUG general meetup) and currently meets in Pasadena, California.

What's different about this group? (?)

Unlike the "LA Drupal" group, which has a small number of organizers for the ambiguously large area of "LA" but whose meetups are exclusively in beach cities in Los Angeles County such as Playa Del Rey (and prior to that, Santa Monica) and Long Beach, our team of organizers has a strong history of producing events for the Drupal community in the San Gabriel Valley.

In addition, SGV Drupal is part of the larger Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) network. What does this mean?

  • If you're interested only in meetups, events and community in the San Gabriel Valley, then is the group for you! Join SGV Drupal for a low email volume experience;
  • If you'd like to hear about Drupal news, discussions and job announcements related to the Greater Los Angeles Area, check out the larger Greater Los Angeles Drupal group;
  • As part of the larger Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) network, our leadership team follows the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Governance Policy;
  • Members and organizers of SGV Drupal are welcome to request the use of the Greater Los Angeles Drupal group's assets and resources for their events and meetups.

DrupalCon Portland roll call and a "DrupalCon LA" group chat on GroupMe

DrupalCon, our community's biggest conference for all things Drupal, is just around the corner. Who's going to Portland, and which hotels will everyone be staying in?

DrupalCon Group Chat

To help organize all our activities while in Portland, we have a "DrupalCon LA" group chat on GroupMe. We've used GroupMe before during DrupalCamps and it might be fun to do it again here at DrupalCon. To join the group chat, post a request here in this thread and I'll add you or join the open group at https://groupme.com/join_group/4464455/HeLAlS

Pasadena / San Gabriel Valley Drupal Meetup at Pasadena City College on April 25, 2013

Start:
2013-04-25 18:00 - 20:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:

Pasadena City College End the month with some fun and Drupal at the San Gabriel Valley Drupal Meetup at Pasadena City College on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6-8pm!

The meetup this month will include both Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal; and Lightning Talks, which are brief, 5-minute long presentations on any topic related to Drupal.

Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bona fide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

Do you have a presentation or job announcement that you'd like to share with the group? Is there a topic about something you'd like to see a presentation on? Leave a comment at http://groups.drupal.org/node/295838#comments to let the organizers and attendees know what you're interested in.

GLADCamp Website Sprint at Droplabs and a Drupal After Dark with Robot Combat League on March 16, 2013

Start:
2013-03-16 10:00 - 17:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:

We had such a great time at last week's Drupal Sprint Weekend that we're doing it again. Join us at Droplabs on Saturday, March 19, 2013, for another day of Drupal, patch reviews and sprints / hackathons on your favorite Drupal projects.

Those interested in attending this event remotely are welcome to join us via a Google+ Hangout. The hangout URL will be posted soon.

Afterward, we'll be going out for a Drupal After Dark with the teams that built the robots for Robot Combat League, the robot exosuit combat show on the Syfy network. Yeah, a day of Drupal and robots!

What's a "code sprint"?

Code sprints are organized events where attendees meet online or in person (and sometimes both) and work toward a shared goal.

Local area organizers have produced several code sprints in recent history, including sprints focused on building the SCALE conference website, resolving issues in the Drupal 7 issue queue and updating the Conference Organizing Distribution (COD) project to Drupal 7.

See https://drupal.org/node/247982 for more information.

What's the code sprint about?

Good question! There will be 3 separate themes at this event:

  • Bring in your Drupal projects and cowork with other Drupal community members! This is great opportunity to cowork with others in a low-key environment where anyone in attendance can ask questions and both offer and receive help on their personal and community projects.
  • Members of the Greater Los Angeles Area Drupal Camp (GLADCamp) organizing team will be working on the GLADCamp website, adding features, fixing bugs, and adding content about the conference, including sponsorship levels, hotel information, and local attractions;
  • Droplabs will also provide a FREE mentored Drupal training using Build a Module videos focusing on Advanced Site Building. Just bring your laptop and a pair of headphones. A Droplabs staff member will set up you with a day pass.
