Startups

The aim of this group is:

  • to give members an opportunity to share their stories about building a website with Drupal for their startups
  • to create a space for those willing to learn more about Drupal and ways it can help online businesses
  • to foster a sense of entrepreneurship and, at the same time, offer technical guidance to those who may not be familiar with Drupal

Over time, it is hoped that this group will become an important part of the drupal community as more people come to learn Drupal for developing online businesses, be they ecommerce websites or social networks.

Local News & Journalism

Hey folks. I'm starting a local news website in my small city in Massachusetts. Has anyone out there tackled this space before? I'd love to pool some wisdom about news sites in Drupal. I'm thinking about starting a group for news & journalism. Let me know if you're interested.

Stuff I'm working with:
- News articles
- Blogging by several different contributors
- Ads, highly user-targeted
- Calendar of local events
- Forums
- Implementing canned themes, since I don't have CSS or PHP skills

Using Drupal to Prototype a Start Up and course on learning Drupal

Glad to find this group. In addition to being a Drupal web developer and trainer, I'm also working on my own start up, built on Drupal.

Last summer I participated in an incubator for social enterprise startups and there was a great deal of talk about the pros and cons of using Drupal for a tech startup, particularly comparing it Rails.

The one point I like to make is that even if Drupal isn't ideal for your startup once it scales, it's hard to find a better tool for building a working prototype.

Finding part-time help for a start-up

Trying to get a start-up company going based on a drupal web site. What is the best way to find part-time, work for equity, super smart developers? I know the web dev market is good for everyone right now, but aren't there a few techies still interested in the risk/reward of pre-funded start-ups? Help

Donate functionality for NGO

I am building a website for NGO. I would like to have a page for donate which asks for credit card information just like https://www.habitat.org/cd/giving/donate.aspx?link=141 and preferably recurring donation.

I searched for modules and found paypal_donate module but it takes the user away from the website. I want the user to give the details of credit card on same webpage.

I am not aware of how to implement it but I think it needs SSL integration.

getimage vs direct url from apache

Assuming images gets re-sized when uploaded, why drupal uses getimage to include images and thumbs
if it is much faster to access the images directly through apache?
I always notice high cpu utilization when I load a page full of images.
How can I avoid this and include direct url to all my images?

thanks for any comments or suggestions.
