Hi guys!

I'm in need of the perfect location selector to efficiently geocode lots of my data. Are any of you guys working on something that might be useful? We should be able to 1. Input place names 2. Input addresses 3. Place pin on map -- to get lat/long out at the other end.

Guys,

Im launching today a ALPHA of my new module: Addresses. Its basically a fork from Location module. Its intended to focus on address only and let geocoding with other modules. Of course, integration is welcome.

Features:

  • All countries of the world
  • All states of all countries
  • Node addresses thru CCK
  • User address book
  • Multiple addresses for nodes and users
  • Phone and Fax fields as extras
  • Generic API for developers: add more fields easily!
  • XHTML, CSS, Drupal and PHP E_ALL valid code

Howto: Creating user friendly mapping for non-drupal nerds

New version here

This howto will help you create a simple method for your clients to add locative information to a travelogue. I've been fiddling with a lot of options for doing this, including using feeds with gmap macros. Though gmap macro feeds have the advantage of offering specific marker types for the different feeds, I ended up using a method which does away with that feature, but gains tremendously in useability, due to the fact that the writer doesn't need to know the exact feed syntax and gmap macro syntax to make it work.

Event content type, Locations, and GMap

I am trying to create a map of node locations, but only for nodes of type Event and Event with Volunteer Timeslots. I've got Location and GMap configured with the API key in all the right places. I'm using the latest dev releases of these modules.

However, when I create a new event node with location data, no geocoding occurs. If I query the location table, I can see my node with the correct location, but the latitude and longitude fields are null.

I looked at location.module in the location_nodeapi() function. Around line 842, I see:

<?php
case 'insert':
?>

Hej!
Hur gör man om man vill översätta Drupal till ett nytt språk?

What would you spend the money on?

Hello, fellow Newspapers On Drupal group members, and thanks to Ken for the introduction. As he mentioned, Placeblogger, a Drupal based site I worked on -- with a LOT of help from Drupal shop Bryght -- won some Phase 2 funding from the John S and James L. Knight Foundation, which gives grants to organizations and projects that advance journalism.

The interesting thing about this funding:

  1. What gets created with the funding must go into the public domain.
  2. The goal of the foundation is to get tools into the hands of newspapers.

I think that's pretty exciting!

For my project, the fact that I'm on Drupal helps me meet both these goals. The project hasn't been completely nailed down yet, but it's likely that much of the funding will go towards creating Drupal modules -- and then using Placeblogger, the site, as a sort of proof-of-concept. I suspect that we'll spend a lot of time on location and Aggregator2, but at this moment we're not tied down to anything.

So help me do some thinking: if you had a little money to fund Drupal module development to aid newspapers, what would you tackle?

I would really like members of this group to consider themselves informal advisers to this project, and to benefit from it directly.

problems saving/loading value of checkbox widget

I created a custom cck field that shows links to mapping sites. It can be used with content types that have a physical address. The widget is just a checkbox, that tells if mapping links should be shown or not for this particular node.

I am definitely doing something wrong because the value of this checkbox is not saved or loaded properly from the database.

I also asked for help on the main drupal forum:

The module is See Map:

Microformats in Drupal

Recently I've really got excited about Microformats and how they can be used to create content that can be aggregated around the internet.

Drupal really needs to support microformats, and I am currently planning and working on a module set that allows this. But I would like your input!

If you read the description of microformats, you can see they are set pieces of information based on existing formats such as vCard and iCal, but written in semantic XHTML, which can then be styled using CSS class selectors. You then have the choice to render them to the page, for example with an event. Or you can embed them in your site, such as linking to someone you have cited on your blog by using the rel tag i.e. XFN.
