Synchronizing nodes from 5x to 6x...
Hey all,
Is there a module that synchronizes two Drupal sites, migrating nodes created one in the other? My sites are D5 -> D6. I'd like to preserve URL aliases if possible. Mainly I'm synchronizing blogs, with all the related comment/user/node issues. I've seen some ideas out there (Node Export with Node Import), but I'd like to know if anyone has done this simply or has some clever idea.
Drupal 5, Views and a list of users with membership in user role "x"
I'm sure I'm missing something painfully obvious. I wish to produce a list of users who have been assigned user role "x" but I'm not seeing how to do so in Drupal 5 and Views
Context:
Drupal 5.18
PHP 5.2.6
MySQL 4.1.19
Views 5.x-1.6
I'd love any pointers -- thanks!
Drupal Developer | The American Academy
The American Academy is an online high school built upon Drupal technology. If you came to the last group meeting, then you have been to our offices - downtown, SLC. We are currently in the process of converting from a Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 code base... which is proving to be a rather large project. Much of our existing code employed custom MySQL tables, with custom queries, something we are working to move away from, toward CCK and Views.
Optimizing iowait with tmpdir and tmpfs or ramfs for Drupal 5 site
A note from the developer who oversees one of my Drupal sites. We could use your help.
Hello,
I have a rather burly Drupal based site that seems to be causing some
problems, today we had a major outage. There are many slow queries
and also mysql related iowait that causes server processes to hang, at
least that is the theory.
Here you can examine some of the stats on the server:

You can see my iowait stats here, which are pretty high:

Hooks: Drupal 6 Vs Drupal 5
Hi Guys,
I was doing a review on the hooks provided by drupal 5 and drupal 6. Most of the hooks are same, except a few which i tried to put down in a document. I needed this to be able to port my custom modules to drupal 6 [i'm still using drupal 5]. So, I thought why not make a document of this and share with everyone else :) I have attached the document. The document contains only those hooks which are in either of the drupal installations and not both.
The major differences that i see in drupal 6 are:
- Actions is integrated with the core.
Optimizing InnoDB for Watchdog table in D5?
So supposing you have several sites on D5 that won't get upgraded to D6 (to take advantage of the syslog support) for several months yet due to workload, what are good ways to optimize InnoDB so that Watchdog can write faster, i.e more concurrent INSERT statements, rather than taking down the site if things get fubar'd? Thanks :)
Aegir 0.1 Beta 2 Released
We're proud to announce the second and final beta release of the Aegir hosting system for Drupal.
Ægir is a new set of contributed modules for Drupal that aims to solve the problem of managing a large number of Drupal sites. It does this by providing you with a simple Drupal based hosting front end for your entire network of sites. To deploy a new site you simply have to create a new Site node. To backup or upgrade sites, you simply manage your site nodes as you would any other node.
This release is feature complete with the main roadmap of Aegir. It will allow you to install, back up, restore, enable, disable and delete your hosted sites. It is considered mostly production ready, and should be safe to run on a production system.
This release will become the first RC in the next week, if no more bugs are found. The only changes that will be allowed into this release
are documentation and bug fixes.
Quiz 2 for D5
What is the plan for Quiz 2 for Drupal 5?
At the moment I am experimenting with Quiz as a system for assessment in the online course I am developing. Assuming I choose quiz over webform or CCK then I will be happy to bug-fix and add functionality which can be contributed into the project. Because of the current state of contributed modules in D6 I think it is better that I stick with D5 for the first rollout of this service allthough I may be convinced otherwise.
CCK performance (or lack of)
Here at Lonely Planet we have been looking into CCK for our own projects so we can create easily supported sites which don't need developer input to do simple things like adding additional fields.
But during this time I discovered how bad the performance actually is. Like everyone I thought that adding fields that were not multiple or shared you would get the best performance.
Well I was wrong, and spent a while making sure that I was correct. And I was.
So during some other enhancements I needed to fix the CCK so that performance was much better.
