e-learning

This is a reposting from http://elearning.psu.edu/projects/node/113 of a presentation that I put up yesterday. It's me at The International Designs on E-Learning Conference a few weeks ago talking about how Penn State (more specifically e-Learning Institute) is using Drupal to power our course infrastructure. This is mostly high level but has a lot of screen shots, selling point type info, links, and a detailed walk through of two of our courses / some of our projects.

I am beginning the development of an interactive course in computer music production as part of a larger educational research project. I have some experience in Drupal already and I want to capitalise on this and expand my knowledge of the system.
The project does not have a big community element although there will be different user classes i.e. student/educator/admin

The main requirements are:

Students view and educators view - I'm thinking of a 3 column design with nav and course pages for students and an extra column for teachers/facilitators

So I showed off a veerrrryyy brief presentation of ELMS and the Assignment Studio yesterday but we're working on A LOT of other projects / related projects. So, tonight around 7pm some of us are going to meet up to discuss ELMS and our initiatives at PSU in greater detail. The hope of this discussion is to try and get edu focused developers excited about this direction and start coming up with an attack plan for future development. This product will be available on drupal.org as soon as it's legal (http://drupal.org/project/elms just a name space at the moment and small description).

Talks about a few modules that they are getting ready to release in the next little while. Course Designer being one of them and Assignment Studio is another one. I didn't have a ton of time to look through the site but after watching a few of the screencasts it looks pretty promising.

Just wanted to let the group know about some Drupal SCORM news that got in my e-mail tonight. I'm not really sure what to make of it because the site doesn't contain much information. The only info I found was that it was a SCORM Player build on Flex 3 (Adobe) for Drupal. Anyway, here's the link to check it out:

Right now there is just a powerpoint, the interesting stuff about integration and features added starts about slide 20. We'll have demo accounts set up pretty soon, and will also publish the documentation from the process in the next few weeks.
