We are developing a plug-in portal for individuals, groups, and organizations that want to create a better world through direct help to one another. It is an online city-specific community that is part social network and part CMS that connects those that need help with those that want to help.

Additional services are similar to traditional SNS's (e.g., friend updates, pictures, videos, blogs, etc.) with an emphasis on fun and efficient use of adults' time.

I am building a website and have come far along, but I need the following:
-A module (Mugshot) to be customized or based off to work with CCK, Views, User Profile
-Help Getting the "Social Networking Community" part of the site set up correctly (Organic Groups, Buddylist, etc)
-Help getting a Flex/Air app to be able to add nodes and comments to my site from remote locations (I'm having trouble with Logging In).

like everybody here, I'm working on the "next big thing" :) ... probably it will never go online, it's just for my diploma.

Anyway, the site is supposed to be a networking site for students studying abroad. Signing up, I have to choose a city (where I will go to). As a member, I have access to this public "city area" (let's say "everybody's Barcelona"), where people can share their knowledge etc. And there's got to be a private area (like "my very own Barcelona"), where every user can have his own blog, calendar, gallery, ...

One of the topics being discussed in a side group last night involved the hope for a site that performed ratings of existing modules which could guide Drupalers to getting what they need in a shorter period of time.

I remembered running across the below site a short time ago, which is described as being a community-powered rating and review service dedicated to helping people to find the best Drupal modules for their projects.

Project Summary

Public Allies North Carolina is seeking proposals for a social networking site using Drupal. We anticipate that most of our functional requirements can be met using existing Drupal modules and the Drupal 5x core, but we seek an experienced CMS developer to select and configure those modules.

Preference will be given to developers in the Triangle area, with whom our organization can form a local working relationship.

I am looking into using Drupal for a new social network aimed at professional and collegiate athletes (NBA, NFL, NCAA, etc.) which will allow them to connect with their fanbase which will also have access to the site membership. The requirements (whick my first platform choice, Elgg, did not adequately meet -- which, in turn, led me to Drupal by recommendation) are to have several different user types related to the industry including fans, teams, universities and career managers (or athlete agents, if you will).

My investigation brings me first to a technical question: which current (Drupal 5) modules give an answer to this question?

I did an investigation and found 19 contributed modules that make integration possible for content coming from a typical social networking site into Drupal.
