Core forum user interface issue

Categories field is collapsed by default when creating new forum topics.

In Drupal core forum (when there is more than one vocabulary assigned to the forum content type) creating a new forum topic causes the categories field to appear collapsed by default.

See attached pics.

This is not very user friendly - especially since category is a required element. Typically the user will miss the field altogether and submit a forum post only to receive a red box warning - somewhat ironically around the now visible category field.

Any churches using Forums?

We're wanting to launch forums in our church site, to promote more community interaction, but some of our staff is concerned about bad language, improper postings, etc. I'm wondering how many churches are using forums, how successful they are and how you prevent malicious behaviour?

We're using D6 and I've installed the abuse module, which allows specific content types to be flagged. Is there any type of bad language filter that would prevent something bad from being posted in the first place?

Comment revision and Comment system

Every once in a while, I am faced with the lack of flexibility of the comment system of drupal. Usually it is fine enough so we forget about little features, but this one is I think worth thinking about.

User case scenario :

  • Someone post a new topic in a forum.
  • Someone else comments on it, as well as 10 other peoples.
  • one of the 'commenter' change his comment

Questions! Forums in drupal? Anonymous comments by content type?

Allright everyone, two areas I'd like some input on!

First: Forums

What do you use for forums on your own drupal sites? I've wanted to avoid going the forum route to gain additional repeat visitation but it's become nescessary. The one built into drupal is extremely lack luster. What is the easiest and most functional when integrated in your experience?

Second: Anonymous Comments by content type?

Multilingual forums

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct section, but I posed a similar question on the main drupal forum and received no replies on the subject, so i'm hoping someone can assist me here if possible.

Forum topics with open, resolved and unsolved statuses?

Hey drupalers,

I would like to propose a new feature for the redesign of the d.o forum.
Wouldn't it be nice if the author of a forum topic can give the topic a resolved or closed status?
This way it's easier to see what topics need more help.
A proposal for some topic statuses:
- open
- closed (resolved)
- closed (unsolved) -> when a topic is open and has not been replied within a month for example or if the author sets it t manually to unsolved.

Maybe you know experts-exchange.com? This is a commercial forum that also works with open and closed questions.
