Geo June - Participate!
Help move Drupal a crucial step closer to being a true Geospatial CMS!
The Drupal community and the Twin Cities Drupal Group invites us all for Geo June, a month-long series of events and collaborative projects. There will be coding, documenting and demonstrating solutions for data collection and mapping.
You can join in the fun by helping the issue queue for Geo and related modules, or by participating in other ways:
Drupal GIS Discussion
Let's do GIS together!
So, Drupal as GIS? Well, Drupal is already being used for GIS; but Drupal is not a GIS. There are many modules addressing a lot of aspects of GIS. But, I feel like we end up duplicating work here and there.
For instance, http://groups.drupal.org/node/20468 is great. But, its kind of funny because bdragon and I just discussed doing this with the openlayers module yesterday, literally. I also realized that I wanted to maybe parse some WMS data and nicemaps was already doing that, but didn't want to have it as a dependency, necessarily.
Location 3.0 and Gmap 1.0 modules -- officially released!
Congratulations to Bdragon, Bec, and all the volunteer contributors who helped push out the new, officially-supported releases of the Location (v3) and Gmap (v1) modules. Hundreds of hours of work have gone into these modules since we adopted them, and we're very proud of the new and refined features.
Location and Gmap can be combined to associate physical, real-world locations with Drupal nodes and users, as well as displaying interactive maps of that content.
CiviMap Module
Hi everyone. I just wanted to let you know that, through CTC and the help of bdragon and becw, the CiviMap Module has been released in very initial development stages.
Its simply a module that will help integrate the GMap Module and CiviCRM. CiviCRM already has some mapping features, but it is not as extensive as GMap. So one direction we are going in is to try to bring CiviCRM data towards the Drupal side and integrate it into GMap. Right now, the main feature is that this module builds KML feeds that can easily be an overlay on a GMap Macro (with the help of GMap Addons).
You can download and try it out, but it could change drastically at any moment at this point in its life, so I make no promises. What I need form you is some feedback on what you might want this module to do, and how it would most benefit the community as a whole. Thanks.
Drupal Mapping & GIS Presentations in Szeged
Hi everyone,
Bec and Bdragon submitted proposals for two Mapping/GIS events at DrupalCon Szeged - please head on over and vote!
A Roadmap for Mapping: GIS on Drupal in 2008 and Beyond! will cover the current status of GIS efforts on Drupal and the immediate plans for the most common modules: Location, Gmap, and the soon-to-be-released Geo module. This will be very similar to the well-received GIS overview session they presented in Boston.

Views + GMaps: a perfect match
Story: On Saturday night Drummy, Tony, and I went to Super Happy Dev House IX. I was a bit drunk. I bet Neil and Tony that I the "business guy" would beat them the "hackers" at hacking. My goal for the night was to integrate the gmaps module with views to allow users to create maps of any view.
I won handily:

Here is the theme code required to do this (add to template.php):
