Drupal theme workshop: Follow up

What an awesome event this past Saturday!

For those of you who were there, at the end of the workshop we had discussed conducting some sort of event where people could work together to build out their sites and deal with any problems they might have in a more personal setting.

My colleague Kev Walsh recently helped out at a Drupal Barnraising in Paris, and I'm just wondering out loud about the opportunity for us to do something like this locally.

Dojo 2.1: Another attempt to revive the Drupal learning and mentoring group

Several months have passed since the Dojo lost it's way a bit when some noble ninjas attempted to create a great deal of good for the Drupal project. In a group of 1500+ members, there is no way to achieve any sort of consensus to why it stalled, how it could succeed, or what the purpose was in the first place. There are, however, a lot of indicators that the concept/ideal of an open learning/mentoring group is solid and is worth reviving.

Lullabot training in Central Ohio?

Greetings, all! I'm new to Drupal, working to redesign Worthington Libraries' Web site and migrate to Drupal in the process.

I've been looking for some good training sessions as I get up to speed and I've heard very good things about Lullabot. I keep hoping they'd offer sessions a little closer to home than the upcoming sessions in Portland, OR and New Orleans, so I contacted Lullabot to ask and the reply I received was:

We don't have any plans currently to do training in Ohio, but are always willing to look at new cities and venues.

Theming workshops?

I've heard rumors of a theming workshop to happen in the New Year, and I wasn't really into or aware of Drupal enough to have caught the recent BAD Camp.

So I was wondering if there were any intentions by the folks over at Raincity or Bryght (well they're the same thing now), or anywhere else for that matter, to host a theming workshop sometime in the New Year. If so, even preliminary details would be good at this stage, even a promise would suffice :)

Does Your Group Charge a Fee for Training--or is it Free?

Our steering committee is having a discussion about whether we should offer training for a small fee, or whether training should be free. We currently have presentations at each meeting which are free. The issue we have is that members are not mastering these presentations enough to do it on their own after the presentation is over. So we're thinking about having smaller, more focused, hands-on training sessions outside of the main monthly meeting.
