Tutorials on mapping with drupal

Hi Guys

I have been trying to build a site that takes in user data through CCk fields and then displays that information on google maps . I have been using CCK, gmap, geonames, location and views modules. I have been playing around with it for the last 2 weeks and have been unsuccessful. Which has lead me onto trying to find tutorials on how somebody would put such a website together. I have searched the drupal website, mastering drupal, lullabot, youtube just about anywhere i could think of. Please if anybody knows where i could find some information, would be greatly appreciated.

Profiles as nodes and GMAP

Hello all,

I'm looking to switch my user profiles to nodes because it gives me more flexibility with gmap.

Unless my user profiles are nodes, I can't use views to select them (or subsets of them) to display on a google map.

Has anyone had any experience of creating user location maps with nodeprofile/userprofile and gmap?

I've hesitated until now to change profiles to nodes. I'm not so worried about performance (low traffic site) but I don't want clashes with all my other installed modules!

crossing my fingers...

Cheers

Hi all,
in a project that I'm doing right now, I needed an easy way to display custom maps in nodes and the gmap module macros just didn't cut it. I ended up creating a filter module, that allows users to insert their Google's MyMap or KML file in square brackets which will then be replaced by a google map with the kml overlayed. It's built on the great jquery jmaps extension by Tane Piper. I finished a first beta today and its working pretty well, http://playground.placematters.org/?q=node/1, you can also download the source code there.

Google Maps working in Australia

A few weeks ago, Google turned the street level searching for addresses.

So now in google maps you can just type in the "280 Ferrars St Melbourne" (the location of the Melbourne Drupal Meetings) and it will find the location.

This is really cool, and it make the geocoding of information in australia very easy.

Hi everyone. I thought I would give you a heads-up about a project that I am working on and some of the extensions to drupal that I will be planning. I would hope to integrate some of this work into the future of the gmaps module if possible. I am currently working on something called the "Greater Victoria Community Atlas". check out development at http://greenmap.lifecyclesproject.ca

Things are still in alpha stage, and are likely to be a bit wonky. (best viewed in firefox at the moment)

It is basically an integration of liquid_wiki, gmaps, location, and a few other modules.. The idea is to create a wikimap system whereby users to add and edit points on the map. Each point on the map is linked to a liquid_wiki page where users can add content and pictures wikistyle. The map is based on layers that users can turn on and off (right hand-side menu). Each layer is actually a catagory pulled from taxomony. Marker Icons on the map are pulled from images in the catagory_image module. When you click on a point, it brings up the relevant page in an inline frame. I would love some comments!

Hi folks,

You might be interested in checking out mapthing. It is a simple module for creating google maps and mapping data points on them. I've abstracted out the data interface and there is a "plug-in" for CiviCRM data (please note that right now the CiviCRM module references are hard coded :( ). I got inspiration (and code :) ) from webgeer's cool GMap module. It's in contribs. Comments welcome.
