Your advice for better forums
I sure love Drupal -- except for the forums, which are pretty weak when compared to Simple Machines Forum or PHPbb. Even with the Advanced Forums module -- which improves things quite a bit -- the forums still come up short.
I'm working on integrating SMF with my Drupal 5 site now, and will look for Drupal 6 solutions in the future, so I'm wondering if anyone has good experience integrating one of these (or another) third-party boards.
Thanks!
Master feature list
For the DruBB project, I took some time and wrote up a spreadsheet with all the feature requests plus features found in vBulletin and phpBB. I went through and noted what is covered by core/contrib already and what still needs to be done (FR). It could use some more tidying up but is a good start to seeing what's done and what's needed. You can see the spreadsheet here:

Organic groups och gemensamt skyddat forum
Hej!
Strange problem with Forums in a multilangual site - help please
Hello,
I’m building with Drupal 6.9 a multilingual (English, Hebrew, Arab, Greek & Turkish) site for a Middle Eastern NGO (http://b1.mideastpan.org).
Setting of a multilingual site with I18 pack was, for a non-programmer ‘Drupal newbie’, pretty straightforward. It seems that content translation and switching between interface & menu languages are working fine (Bravo).
After setting a forum, the following ‘strange’ problems appear:
real multi lingual forum
Hi
I am trying to use forum in a multi lingual site
the problem is that i don't want the end user to select the language , i want it to be selected automatically by the "context" - i mean by the forum language
i have set up 2 groups (one for each language)
forum/1 - English
forum/2 - Hebrew
so when the user uses English site for example and enters forum/1 and presses on "add forum topic" , he needs to select the language, and i want this to be automated
one way i can do this by is by hook_from_alter()
is there another way ?
am i the first who needs this ?
Thanks , Avior
Show parent forum in tracker
We've got a /tracker menu item to show new forum posts. Great. Only problem is it doesn't show the forum the topic is posted under, my first thought is that this could easily be fixed by using a view instead of the tracker. Problem with this is that views can't show whether there are new posts in a topic. So should I:

Foro en Drupal
Hace un tiempo que estoy desarrollando un foro en Drupal con funcionalidades similares a los que todos conocemos.
Durante este proceso documente todos los pasos para crear un foro con Drupal 5.2.
New module to assign titles to users
Last week I created a module that's popular with forum communities; it allows titles to be assigned based upon post counts, as well as arbitrary overriding of the titles by administrators.
It requires work at the theming layer to expose these titles, though I saw some mention that flatforum may offer automatic integration with the module if it exists. If so, that would be really handy.
Help review the 'Custom content types as forum topics' patch
The issue is at: http://drupal.org/node/20295
It's the most awaited one after flat forums(coming soon!), and posting this one so that we can move on to flat forum one asap! Now, for this one, imagine you want polls to appear in your forums, this patch gets any content type in there, and likewise the possibilities to push any content into forums by choosing related category. Hopefully this much makes enough sense what the patch does. Will also post a port for Drupal 5.x, as requested by Michelle.

UIE Forum for drupal 5
UIEForum is a complete forum system, that is intended to replace the existing drupal forum module. I test this module before, and its a better solution for me, it still in dev version, the developper is very friendly helper (zoro)
