How to show daily news

public
kalkar.prashant - Tue, 2008-07-08 09:15

I want to show the news on daily basis. I tried to use the Daily module, but the module only allow one news per day. I want to show all the news posted by the users for the given date, with the calender control (like the one provided with the Daily module) and user should be able to navigate between the news day-wise with the help of that calender control.

Can anyone tell me how can I implement this functionality.

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant

Hi. Does anyone know where I can find free (open source) taxonomies that I could use for an online newspaper?

How to set up a newspaper site

JayCally - Thu, 2008-05-29 13:11

I work for a newspaper publisher that produces 9 weekly newspapers. I'm looking into using Drupal as a CMS for our web products. I read Building powerful and robust websites with Drupal 6 which helped me to understand how drupal works and to set up a site. I really like how the New York Observer is laid out and could use some help on setting up a newspaper site.

Below is a list of what I'd like to do and would really appreciate any pointers or suggestion you may have.

Process of naming images

Hello,

In a newspaper website, there is a lot of pictures uploaded.

So the question is quite simple :) : how do you manage to name all of your pictures/images or the way you organise them so you can find them easily later. Or you dont care about that and you just upload them ?

Or is there an automatic renaming module (dont know if there is one) and you just add a description and a few keywords and hope to find it back when you need it.

Thanks for sharing your experience about this matter.

Hi all,

We are working on a high school newspaper. We are wondering if anyone will share their theme for their front page. We won't just change the images and titles and use it ourselves. We just want a starting point. We plan to use panels and 4 views. (one for each section), we are just looking for example html to use as a starting point. If you would like to share this privately, use the contact form.

Thanks you very much,
Sara.

Ok, it's not anything great yet, but I'm using Drupal to put together an Online Coupon section for my grassroots journalism sites.

Things I still want to do:

  • Track how many times each are printed
  • Choose two (or more) coupons that you want printed on 8.5x11...
  • Attach to PayPal for automation
  • Auto expiration of coupons

Just noticed automated comment preview on the newspaper group...

I just noticed that groups.drupal.org has enabled an automatic preview for comments. Now a window is generated automatically to present a preview of a poster's comment, eliminating the need to click the preview button in order to see the comment.

I kinda like this feature. Does anyone know what module does this? And whether it could also be applied to content types, rather than just comments? And whether there are irritating side-effects to doing this?

Taxonomy menu

Using taxonomy is a great way to organize your content and it seems that most newspapers on Drupal uses this method. But how do you make autogenerated menus from category-terms with pretty urls in a generel manner?

The module "Taxonomy menu" generates menus from category-terms but leaves you with ugly urls of the form: http://thisNewspaper/taxonomy/term/3, which can't be very search engine friendly.

Using views and making every menu-item by hand (pointing them to a view) gets you pretty urls, but is a fairly complicated way of making menus.
