Setting up a business directory

Hi, I am trying to get my head around the steps required to set up a searchable business directory similar to http://www.gran-canaria-info.com/index-old.shtml whereby users can add their own businesses and they are later searchable. I have trawled through the comments on this group and can't seem to find some step by step instructions. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If not could you give me some ideas to start,

thanks,

Richard

Reviving the Business Directory Group

I've followed this group for awhile, because I have created a lot of business directories outside of Drupal, and have wondered if it could be done easier and quicker within Drupal and it's vast amount of contrib modules. Well, I think it can, now that I do 90% of website development work in Drupal.

Help with structuring a directory

I am trying to create a system like http://atlanta.craigslist.org/, where users can post anything they are selling. This is what I did so far.

1) I created a content type called "marketplace listing". I used CCK to add various fields.
2) I created a container vocabulary called "Marketplace". Then I added terms (categories) in a tree like structure. For example, see below:
Marketplace
-For Sale
--Books
--Electronics
--Clothes
--Computers
-Jobs
--Accounting
--Finance
--Engineering
-Housing
--Apartments
--Condos

Facebook Live Stream Module for Drupal Released

Greetings!

Our team recently released a module leveraging the Facebook Open Stream API. Once installed, the module allows users of the Drupal instance to access their Facebook account and view the real time stream of their friends’ updates from Facebook in a block within their Drupal instance. Users can control the number of posts viewable via the profile settings tab.

Starting Simple, Going for Slick

Is there a known-solution or known-theories for giving users access to change only one story? This would be a way to allow businesses in my directory to update the listings, once I 'prime' them with some sort of startup content.

Example:
I would love to give a login/password to the owner of Drawing Board, so s/he could edit this listing I started for them. They are a lot more artistic than I am, but obviously, I cannot have them touching anything except this one story.

Can I Already Build This...?

I know there is a discussion going on here about building a business directory module. However, I also see other people are already doing this with existing modules. Could I fairly easily build a directory like this: http://www.pastigo.com/sites-amp-attractions-2.html using Drupal's existing modules? This directory was done in Joomla! using Mosets Tree. I've also been looking at using SOBI2 with Joomla!, but it's not updated yet to run with J! 1.5 and not sure when that will happen. Plus, I'm trying to see if there is a better way to organize the data.

Anyone wants to set it up for me?

I wonder if any of you would like to set up the directory for me ... of course I would pay for it.

If anyone wants to do it, please let me know how much would you like to get paid for the job.

Thanks
Manuel

business directory module

OpenResort - www.openresort.org started out as a business directory, and has evolved into a booking engine. For the purpose of a business directory our module works great. Check it out.

My Business Directory

I am trying to build my first Drupal directory. Building a basic directory using CCK and Views seems easy enough. I am have trouble with figuring out the best way to charge users to post certain nodes.

What I ideally want is for some users to be able to pay to get their entry to the top of the list. So, this would mean that the node would become "sticky" once the user has paid a fee. I can't seem to figure out a way to do that.
