I am looking for a talented Drupal developer to work Full Time on the Tom Udall for Senate campaign. While I set telecommuting to "not allowed", we can work something out if it takes you some time to move down to albuquerque. While you would mainly be building/maintaining organizing tools for the campaign, we will need you to help a bit with blogging and social media as well as following the candidate to the occasional event. If you are interested, please contact me at solson@tomudall.com, or IM/Skype me at skyleolson. Thanks!

US patent reform and open source: Who is the best candidate for the OS community?

My friend whurley has launched an online poll to bring open source to the attention of politicians -- specifically, the presidential candidates. He, like many of us, is troubled by the recent calls for patent reform put forth by larger companies that may wind up blocking innovation and threatening open source-oriented companies and contractors.

You can view the poll here and vote for which candidate you believe is best for the open source community. (Don't worry: "None of them" is an option!)

Starting a Group Fundraising Campaign

Before initiating a fundraising campaign, there are five important questions you’ll need to answer as mentioned in How to Use the Internet for Group Fundraising.

What issue does your campaign target?
Where is the money going to go?
Who can you ask for financial support?
When do you need to meet the fundraising goal?
How are you going to convince people to support the campaign?

There is additional helpful info at On Group Fundraising

Enzyme and creating campaign websites

public
bobo@drupal.org - Sat, 2006-08-12 23:35

Kia ora all,

Some time ago I created a project called Enzyme. (www.enzyme.org.nz) I was originally using Php-Nuke and I had an idea. I had recently gotten more involved in activism and saw a need for a community website. I hadn't come across Indymedia yet, but when I did I recognise the limitations of the Indymedia concept (it's a grassroots open-publishing news website) for what I wanted to do. I wanted to create an online community portal. I had many discussions with myself and others over the limitations of the internet for activist groups and the New Zealand activist context and eventually the project ended up becoming a free webhosting project. It's gone through many variations and half-pie designs etc, but fundamentally it's main purpose has been fullfilled.
