Combined Melbourne PHP-Drupal Bowling Meetup
Hey everyone!
I was inspired to organise a social event for next month, and this is what I came up with:
<?php
$group1 = "phpMelb";
$group2 = "Melbourne Drupal";
$idea = "A combined $group1 & $group2 bowling meetup!";
echo $idea;
?>I am thinking around Saturday 5th of December, before people start going on holidays and so on. We can meet at the bowling alley at the top of Melbourne Central, next to the Lion and also near the Hoyts ticket office. We'll get some pizzas there while we play, say, 2 games each, and then we can go the Lion for a few beers afterwards.

Study groups?
How have people been supporting informal study groups, where students self-organize? What has worked well?

Social site created with Drupal : here is what I did and used
Hi,
I'd like to get some constructive feedback and to provide you with information on a site I am soft-launching : Recipe blogs . Attached are some screenshots. The premise of the site is to mix & match both a "directory"-type site and a "digg"-like site.
Contract - Facebook development, Drupal + Ajax + Java project | GRG Ventures, Inc
All,
I am looking for a person to clone a certain feature of a facebook application for me. The job will require knowledge of drupal, ajax, java and the rest of the necessary components needed to code.
I dont think it should take more than a week to complete and we are looking to pay $1500.
This is a basic run through of how it will look (no designing necessary, just simple functionality)
User enters (he has a user id),
He will have a choice to take a quiz, the quiz is displayed in a box (lets say 400 x 300), and inside the box will be a picture, a question, and 4 answers.
Amazee: free Drupal based social collaboration platform launched
Amazee (http://amazee.com) is a cool new social collaboration platform implemented in Drupal. It offers a free platform for people to come together and collaborate online on projects. Features include a project magazine (with cool drag and drop functionality), wiki, events calendar, discussion forums, sponsoring etc. Amazee is a great showcase for many things Drupal is good at including a great user interface.
Maybe it is an interesting candidate for a d.o front page showcase? Here is a summary of recent press coverage:
BabelUp: a community for social change
BabelUp is a social network for social activism. That is, it's a fun community to hang out in with friends and discuss global issues. BabelUp hosts forums, user blogs, image galleries, real-time chatting, groups, calendars, and lots of other features you'd expect to find in a well-designed (hopefully) social network.
Surviving social-media traffic spikes: 5 simple performance tips
I just wrote a new article called How I Survived a 2300% Traffic Increase With Drupal. It documents my experience with hitting the front page of Reddit, and some of the steps I took to make sure my site stayed online.
I also included some nice traffic graphs and statistics. If you ever wondered what kind of numbers to expect from a front-page link on a big social news site, be sure to check it out.

What modules are the best to use on Drupal 6 for a Social Network?
Just wondering, what modules are the best to use on Drupal 6 for a Social Network? The ones posted by Huitalk are mostly for 5.x...
Any help appreciated.
Gnomepal Community Information and Discussion
The Gnomepal project is still brewing, and the communication tools are coming together - the hope is to build Gnomepal.org as a live sandbox for groups / communities, as what's the point of building a community tool if the community itself can't use it?
For collaboration or general discussion, I have these vehicles at my immediate disposal until we have everything assembled properly on Gnomepal.org itself:
- IRC on irc.freenode.net in #drupal-gnomepal
- Live Interoperability on a Ventrilo server (I must grant you access first)
