Symlink to my modules dump not working

Hello,
I'm running my BOA deployment on amazon's ec2 and it's been an experience. It works but i've got my eyes on it constantly to make sure it works as it should.

We've got issues with bandwidth over here in Nigeria so i prefer to have a dump of the possible modules that i may need for different projects being hosted on the Octopus instances.

My dump is stored on the ec2 default user home folder and i would like to symlink it to the sites/all/modules/"my_contribs" link/folder. I created a symlink but it didn't take. My site didn't read the modules folder. I changed the permissions to 755, chown'd it to root but still no success.

OpenChurch and Aegir

Is anyone working with OC in an Aegir workflow? I have questions related to that which may just be due to my lack of familiarity with the distro process. I attempted to create a platform using git clone because I wanted to test the latest version. I directed the platform to the openchurch.make but it failed. Is there a particular make file I should set the front end on or should I build the core and distro. Any help in directing me to a more efficient workflow would be greatly appreciated.

Memcache or Redis for Drupal7 platforms? Or how to speed up registered users actions

Hi,

As i understand, D7 platforms have no built config for Redis & Memcached. Currenly 5.3 php has alredy memcached.so extension, so It is possible to somehow enable them (and not to ruin config, of course)?

Other related:

Also, had anyone luck with D7 and authcache? Is it worth to rebuild theme templates?

Entity cache - any benefit?...

As for anonymous users, everything just flies!

System Admin | Publik Design

Employment type:
Contract
Telecommute:
Allowed

I'm looking for an Drupal experienced system admin to setup an Aegir hosting system, and provide ongoing maintenance/support.

System to be scalable ie. not something that is going to 'fill up' and need moving to a larger vps or whatever, down the track.
Optimized for Drupal (memcache, APC, whatever, etc. ie. all the things I see mentioned across the interweb about Drupal performance but don't understand. :)

If interested, please contact to discuss in more detail.

Thanks,

Tim @ publikdesign.com.au

Use Octopus platform as part of a custom makefile?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to base a custom makefile off of, for instance, a BOA pressflow platform? Since Omega has spiced up these platforms with extra useful modules etc, I would want to have my custom platform always pull from the latest BOA pressflow BEFORE adding any of my custom stuff. Anyone done this? thanks!

Octopus purpose?

Hi,

First of all: great job of making automate scripts - Barracuda is flying on relatively cheap VPS, installation probably took 1/20th of time needed to do similar by hand, but one question remains:

What is the purpose of Octopus? I will use this Aegir instance only internally, that means I will be the only administrator, maybe 1-3 more persons will have an access. So, is there a need to install Octopus? I have read few times everything on project page, understood all words (my native is not english) but the whole meaning - not. Especially Is there any "Octopus for dummies" guide?

Environmental Variables for Aegir

I am writing to describe my recent efforts to learn Aegir and to invite interested folks to collaborate with me in the learning experience. (I did attend the meeting at Pitt earlier this year on Aegir, but I don't remember enough of the details.)

I recently set up an ubuntu server at home and installed Aegir, mostly following the great tutorial at: http://friendlydrupal.com/screencasts/how-install-aegir-drupal-hosting-p.... Also, some instructions at: http://www.wepoca.net/how-to-install-aegir-1x-ubuntu

Which Linux flavour to choose?

Hi,

Found VPS provider for aegir instalation (up to 15 D6-D7 sites, 1/2 of them corporate brochure type), it will be openVZ with guaranteed 2048Mb RAM, mysql+php+apc+apache+smtp, and other basic services, maybe Apache Solr. Memcahed/Nginx/Varnish is a possibility if performance benefits over simple Boost module+APC are worth pain having another service on same vps.

Which linux to choose from this list:

CentOS 4
CentOS 5
CentOS 6
Debian 4
Debian 5
Debian 6
Fedora 14
Fedora 15
openSUSE 11.3
openSUSE 11.4
Ubuntu 10.04

What's your process for change management for migration of very large drupal installations?

Hello everyone,

I have been "messing" with drupal for a while now, and have now taken my first job as a 100% committed Drupal developer & tech lead for a company that builds massive websites for large federal initiatives that involve dense structures, complex role management schemes, and mountains of content (often 10,000+ nodes).

So, one of my first tasks as we get started is to work with the site building team and sys admins to create a solid process for performing migrations from dev >>> staging, sometimes staging >>> dev, and, of course, the eventual staging >>> production.
