Szeged SoC presentation online, Code submissions
Hi SoCer's,
You can grab the videocast of the Szeged SOC presentation over at http://www.archive.org/details/soc_showcase. It's available in streaming and full formats.
Also, our Google code project page (For code submissions) is live: http://code.google.com/p/google-summer-of-code-2008-drupal/
Needless to say, our projects pwned.
Please read the details at the page http://groups.google.com/group/google-summer-of-code-announce/web/how-to.... It has been updated recently for SOC 2008.
Color.module - Questions for themers
I really need the help of the theming community on this one. It has to do with the way color.module fundamentally works and how it works with themes.
The comment here linked me to an implementation of a color-changing theme for joomla. It uses alpha-transparent PNG images and pure CSS to deliver theme changes on the fly. From the looks of it (I do not have an account there yet, but I'll buy one), essentially the layout is comprised solely of CSS and colorless transparent images.
Drupal's integration with new Youtube API to have a video portal profile

Refactor Collaborative Editor
Based on the Refactor revisions to use a version control system proposal changed, I post this proposal.
The problem
Core only allows the first user that sumbit the node form to save the changes; so the others have to see the saved node again and manually make the changes, hoping no other user save it before he does it. Clearly, it's a really slow way to make a contributed document.
The other side of GSoC
Ok, this is going to get me into trouble, but nevertheless:
Christian Weilbach, long-time KDE developer, has posted a lengthy critique of Google's intentions with the GSoC on his blog (which is running on Drupal, btw). The lack of paragraph usage makes it a bit hard to read, hopefully that'll be fixed soon, but nonetheless I find it very worth the read, even if one doesn't necessarily need to agree with his point of view.
Javascript framework ....
Hi,
I'm interested in taking a part as a student in GSoC 2008. So, here's my idea.
Drupal came with jQuery as its default javascript library. For some user, who uses another javascript library outside jQuery (such as mootools, prototype etc.), this thing often causes any trouble because their script always conflicting with jQuery.
So, i would like to develop a module which is allow user to:
<
ul>
Create new actions for Imagecache
The imagecache module is awesome now but it has only 3 actions: scale, resize and crop. My proposal for SoC is use imagecache 2.0 and the hook_imagecache_action (http://www.darrelopry.com/story/imagecache-2x-beta) to create new actions like:
- Watermark
- Rounded corners
- Borders
- Insert text
- Insert image
- Rotate
- And so on
There are a lot of new possible actions, you can go to imagemagick options for more action examples: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php
Possible Usability projects?
This idea came out of a conversation Bevan and I were having at DrupalCon -- maybe it's crazy talk, but maybe it'll work.
Identify and isolate admin features; for example, creating forums, which currently requires a few steps, and knowledge of containers, etc. Analyze the workflow/mouse clicks required to build this functionality. Then, create a wireframe of the admin functionality that simplifies the task. Then, create a helper module that builds the streamlined, more intuitive UI
Help API
Moved to official ideas list at http://drupal.org/node/237899
Staring with some of the things here and some thinking and discussion here's a proposed proposal for a coding project:
Drupal's help system is fairly incomplete. At drupalcon there were many examples where the lack of a help system contributed to its usability woes. This project aims to enhance Drupal's help system through a pluggable, extensible help system API.
Post-SoC progress
Seems I haven't given up on Version Control API & friends by now, which one could say is a good thing. Due to my rather silent nature, there haven't been as many g.d.o posts as during the Summer of Code (namely, none until now). Nevertheless a good share of remaining issues have been resolved, and missing features have been added. Here's a short rundown of what has been achieved since part 2 of my wrap-up, which was written a month ago.
