Google Ratproxy - a web application security audit tool
Submitted for perusal by the group, as passed to me by a fellow developer.
"[Google ratproxy is a] semi-automated, largely passive web application security audit tool, optimized for an accurate and sensitive detection, and automatic annotation, of potential problems and security-relevant design patterns based on the observation of existing, user-initiated traffic in complex web 2.0 environments.
SEO love for Flex/Flash RIA's
Adobe teamed up with Google and Yahoo! to "enhance the searchability of SWF content by helping their spiders playback SWFs in the Flash Player runtime. The project runs SWF files within web spiders and allows all contents within a SWF file to be read by both major search engines. The cool part is that this also covers dynamic data loaded in from requests to a server, these are typically ignored in both AJAX and SWF applications.
Google selling radio automation software
I just came across http://www.google.com/radioautomation/index.html . When did Google enter the radio automation market? I'd be very interested to see what the pricing looks like. My guess is that they did this as a long range way to sell audio ads to radio stations. Outsource your sales department to Google and the ads just magically show up in the playlists.
The other side of GSoC
Ok, this is going to get me into trouble, but nevertheless:
Christian Weilbach, long-time KDE developer, has posted a lengthy critique of Google's intentions with the GSoC on his blog (which is running on Drupal, btw). The lack of paragraph usage makes it a bit hard to read, hopefully that'll be fixed soon, but nonetheless I find it very worth the read, even if one doesn't necessarily need to agree with his point of view.
Integrate Google's new Youtube API with Drupal
Moved to official ideas list at http://drupal.org/node/237646
Google announced that they will open up Youtube's API . This means sites can have the ability to upload video transparently. The API is here.
Sites can have a chromeless player (non Youtube branded) too.
Trying OpenSocial once more.
There was a previous attempt at integrating OpenSocial into Drupal. My hope is this one will be more successful.
As it stands now the RESTful API aren't ready for but there's plenty of documentation to get an early start. I am planning on jump starting the server-based part of this project by evaluating the existing REST API.
REQUESTING INPUT ABOUT DRUPAL IN AFRICA
Hello All,
PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE OR TWO TO READ THIS
I am a high school student in America participating in the Google Highly Open Participation Contest 2007 (http://code.google.com/opensource/ghop/2007-8/) and am working on a task for Drupal. The task is to research how Drupal is used in Africa to demonstrate that Drupal is used worldwide.
I am posting this to you either because you are an Africa group, have an African Drupal site, or have been using Drupal for a while and are knowledgeable (or all three)

The Google AJAX Feed API for use with FeedAPI module
Has anybody bothered to take a look at the Google Ajax Feed API with the intention of using it for Drupal aggregation?
We've implemented client side aggregation for a project being released soon. This gives a similar experience to NetVibes.
GHOP in NZ schools
If you haven't heard; http://code.google.com/opensource/ghop/2007-8/ and http://drupal.org/node/195913
Congratulations to SilverStripe of Wellington, and Drupal!
Should we bother trying to promote this in High Schools in NZ? How?
