blogging

I'd like to have http://user.site.com be equivalent to http://site.com/blogs/user (mod-rewrite?) but I'd also like to have the option for a user to specify a custom domain in their profile and have http://customdomain.com map to http://site.com/blogs/user - has anybody written code to do this? If not I'm going to have to write my own module to implement it ....

I am re-purposing my blog site slightly. It's always been a blog and it's fairly popular, but it used to be just me. I'm throwing the doors open (well, within reason) to other authors.
