If someone uses Drupal to build a custom "software as a service" web app (an example mght be basecamp [http://basecamphq.com/]), is there any way to prevent a competitor from getting acces to the custom code or configuration used to create it and starting a competing service?

We are developing an innovative educational platform using Drupal (along with a few other Open Source applications) and need a technical project manager/senior developer to continue to drive the expansion of our business. This role bridges the gap from customer requirements over specification development and project management to actual implementation.
