Welcome! The goal of this group is to build relationships and share skills with Drupal in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater region of Virginia, including Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Richmond, and surrounding areas.
Meetups are held the first Wednesday evening of every month. Events will be posted here and on Meetup.com.
Join us for pizza and drinks, Drupal talk, and a presentation on Sass by Jack Haas.
There is no cost to attend this meetup. Suggestions for topics are welcome. Let Danita, Josh, or Jeff know if you have something you'd like to talk about or present.
The weather took its toll on the March meetup and we had to cancel, but the April meetup is a go. Format of the meeting will be what we proposed for March - time for anyone to ask a Drupal question (and hope someone can answer it) and/or short presentations on helpful Drupal tips, favorite modules, etc. (5-10 minutes depending on number of presenters).
As always, we'll have a some food and drinks available.
There is no cost to attend this meetup.
Suggestions for topics are welcome. Let Danita, Josh, or Jeff know if you have something you'd like to talk about or present.
Since no one complained about the format of last month's Drupal meetup (and the time limit for complaining has passed :) ) we'll try that again this month.
If you have a question about anything Drupal related, be prepared to ask it and see if anyone can answer it. Or, if you have a good tip, suggestion, favorite module, or way of doing something with Drupal that you'd like to share, come prepared. We'll try to give everyone equal time to ask a question or share.

I've received a lot of requests recently to do some training/education related to Drupal in the last month. The International Drupal Training Days are coming up on March 15th and considering the other conferences and meetups happening in Norfolk in mid-March I think it would be a great time do to a Drupal Intro training.
What do you guys think? Any volunteers to help out?

This month we invite members of the group to share a favorite module or tip they use to build websites with Drupal or a question on any Drupal topic. If you don't know the answer to a question, hopefully someone else will. We'll present in lightening-round format (10 minutes or so per presenter or question).Read more
I've personally found that Facebook groups area a great way for small communities to carry on conversations online and keep the creative energy flowing. Plus it's a fast and easy way to share resources, events, thoughts, etc.
We've set one up for this group here.
Right now it's a private group, so just request access and we'll let you in. Just want to avoid spammers getting in.
On January 9th, we are kicking off the new year with a Drupal Meetup at xTuple's headquarters in Norfolk, VA. This will be a bigger event than usual and will highlight some of the things exciting things coming in 2013.
In addition to the Drupal community, we are opening an invitation to the rest of the Hampton Roads tech community that may or may not be familiar with Drupal and/or xTuple's open source technology.
We'll be providing pizza, beer, and good conversation. Please help spread the word!

Any drupal developers out there with Blackbaud NetCommunity (BBNC) experience. BBNC is not a very difficult platform to work with, but there is a learning curve. I'd like to find some developers we can continue to rely on that are past that learning curve.

Domain Access instead of Multi Site? Other Ideas?
We are using multisite Drupal currently for 3 sites. Lets call them:
www.mysite.edu (main site)
We have a number of issues with multisite. We are looking to add a couple more sites.. which will compound these issues.
- Three different sets of configurations (Drupal config options set up through the admin interface)
I have an issue that's been nagging me for, years..
Currently still on a drupal 6 site for the one I need this for..
I am trying to find a way to allow a node to be 'owned' (and therefore edited freely) by a GROUP of people, not just one user.
Example. I have a 'page' content type and one particular page needs to be editable by 5 different people, all of whom are in 'marketing' department.Read more
Hi everyone. Just a heads up, later this month there will be an event at the Nauticus called Ignite Hampton Roads. It takes a similar model to a TED talk but at an accelerated pace and all participants are from the HRO area. I'll be out of town so I can't make it, but I wanted to let you know.
Should be a great event.

I'm self taught coming from the design world and I've hit a wall with building my first Drupal site. Any contacts in Richmond I could reach out to for training/tutoring (I don't mind paying for their time). I'm having trouble getting past the BlueMasters theme I'm trying to install on the site and I'm using Network Solutions (not the best option I realize) for hosting. Thanks!
I've probably met a few of you, but for the rest, I'm Brock Boland. I live down in DC, and I'm involved in the Drupal Ladder initiative: http://drupalladder.org
The gist of it is that we're working to get more people involved in contributing to core, with a goal of 1% of drupal.org users contributing to Drupal core by summer 2014.
There are two main ways that we're working to achieve that goal:
- Learn sprints, where we work through lessons on DrupalLadder.org
- Issue sprints, where we work on issues from the Drupal core issue queue
Got a call from a contact up in Richmond today looking for some devs:
"client is looking for 2 Drupal Developers on a direct hire basis. You can work 100% telecommuting so the developers can be anywhere in the US."
PM me if you're interested or if you know anyone looking for work and I'll pass along their contact info. They aren't looking for contractors at this point, this would be a full time position.
Thanks, and hope you are all well. =)
We are currently seeking an drupal developer with experience working on the back-end of Drupal 6 and 7. This person will feel comfortable working with Git, Drush, and the command line. Knowledge of the Compass framework, SaSS, and JS are all pluses.
We are located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, so if you are near by that's great, but if you want to telecommute, we are open to that too.

Reach out to us! We really enjoy meeting new people.
