In June 2010, Mark Albert joined the staff at The George Washington University as Director of Portal Technologies. He has since taken on the role of Director of University Web Services, overseeing the web technologies within the Division of Information Technology. In this role, he provides technical and strategic leadership of the university content management system, the portal and a variety of other web-based systems, including custom-developed and vendor supported. Prior to that, he was a member of the Data Systems group of the Information Technology division at Gettysburg College. His primary responsibilities were the maintenance, enhancement and implementation of web-based portals and other web solutions on campus. Originally hired as Gettysburg College's first webmaster in 1998, he took on the role of web programmer in 2000 with the campus developed portal CNAV. Some of the projects that he was a lead developer on include Timesheet, Inventory, Helpdesk, Services, First Year Orientation and Transcripts. He was also the lead programmer on the interfaces between the ERP systems and CNAV. Mark is a graduate of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English Literature and an M.S. in Information Systems. He started his career in higher education as the photojournalist in the Office of Public Relations at California University of Pennsylvania. He was also a sports writer and photographer at a daily newspaper and spent a number of years in the grocery industry.
