VoIP Drupal

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

We are building a highly innovative framework that integrates Drupal sites with touch tone phones, SMS and Internet-telephony systems.

Our goal is to create a voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) platform that interoperates with existing VoIP PBX implementations (Asterisk, FreeSwitch, Tropo, Twilio and others) to provide Drupal users with the ability to, among other things:

* Record, send and receive audio messages
* Create and manage audio groups
* Add audio events to a shared calendar
* Organize phone-based polls
* Send meeting reminders
* Collect stories
* Broadcast emergency announcements
* And much more!

VoIP Drupal will change the way you interact with Drupal, your phone and the web! Join our LinkedIn group and learn more about VoIP Drupal at the VoIP Drupal project page, the VoIP Drupal Handbook and the demo site.

If you have any pressing questions, please leave them here or get online support at #drupal-voip (FreeNode IRC). Our IRC Office Hours are usually on Wednesdays @ Noon EST.

Who's using VoIP Number module?

Hello all,

We are implementing a major change in the current structure of the VoIP Number module (http://drupal.org/project/voipnumber). As part of that, we are wondering how important it would be to implement a script to convert existing VoIP Number instances to the new format.

If you are a "heavy" VoIP Number user, please let us know ASAP. We will only implement the conversion script if that's necessary, ok?

Best,

== The VoIP Drupal team

Getting global with VoIP Drupal

Hello all,

This was an active weekend for the VoIP Drupal community from around the world!

Among other things, our colleague Arijit Dutta kept the audience on their feet with his "Roller-coasting VoIP with Drupal" presentation and hands-on session at DrupalCamp Delhi 2012 (http://bit.ly/T3jT59).

Do any VOIP Drupal installs interface with Organic Groups (and perhaps OG Mailinglist)?

We are gearing up for an initial gathering in the Twin Cities based on this interest - http://groups.drupal.org/node/251383 - and I'd like to point people toward VOIP Drupal - http://groups.drupal.org/voip-drupal - implementations connecting small groups of people in two-way communication.

VoiceXML

we are in very early stages of looking to use VOIP & Drupal. We have used sms_framework before and that works quite well for our SMS requirements.

One of the local providers in our country provides a (simplified) VoiceXML interface. That seems to be the W3C standard for voice applications, and is supported by asterisk & freeswitch.

Is there any experience here working with VoiceXML? Would it be possible to write a plugin (like the trillio plugin) for VoiceXML. Are others thinking in the same direction?

rgds,
Reinier

Using VOIP Drupal module to send simple SMS message

I am using the Drupal 7 version and cannot figure out if there is a way to send simple SMS messages using either tropo or twilio. I can send an SMS message from a call but just want the ability to send SMS directly.

Is anyone using Drupal to connect their neighbors? (Twin Cities)

I am looking for Drupal folks interested in experimenting with Drupal to connect the neighbors on their own block. (or two)

Who's in?

At a minimum, E-Democracy.org can provide pizza and beer for those interested in a little hack event to put together some tools.

In addition to the latest social media, we are interested in ideas and tools about how to reach people on urgent matters via text as well as DrupalVOIP options to reaching elderly neighbors with voicemail calls.

The hack event would be a couple of months from now in St. Paul or Minneapolis.

Cheers,
Steven Clift

More info about VoIP Number ?

I have been immersing myself in VoIP Drupal and coming to the conclusion that I may not be fully grasping the power of this package.

Could someone give me a concrete idea about what VoIP Number, as a CCK field, can do? I understand in general that it can store numbers, but what does that mean in practice? Is this a way for, for example, linking VoIP to CiviCRM for surveys, and/or is it possible to do other things with it?

Thanks in advance for thoughts, answers, or other feedback.

Using VoIP Drupal for social inclusion and civic empowerment in Wisconsin

Hello all,

Last week, I attended the 2012 MIT-Knight Civic Media Conference at the MIT Media Lab and had the opportunity to do a 5-minute "ignite talk" about the What's Up initiative that we are carrying in Wisconsin:

http://youtu.be/ToBvwEjNET8

Built on VoIP Drupal (http://drupal.org/project/voipdrupal/), What's Up is a software platform designed to allow people in a small geographic community to share information, plan events and make decisions, using media that is as broadly inclusive as possible.

Porting VoIP Drupal to D7 – and beyond!

Hello everyone,

Good news! The MIT Center for Civic Media has recently granted us some funding to port the VoIP Drupal core modules to Drupal 7!

In fact, as you may have already noticed in the VoIP Drupal issue's queue, the porting is moving full steam forward and should be ready in a couple of days! Whenever you have a chance, please download the latest dev version and help us test the code. The more people we get to help us in this process, the better!

User Log in

https://wlfriends.org/accounts/login is using a paraphrase over a username and password.

The smart thing about a paraphrase over a username and password is the paraphrase is the key to the encryption so every user uses an unique encryption. just like pgp. This is brilliant i can not believe this was not used 10 years ago for log-ins.
