What to do?

Noticing the unusually high interest but lack of experienced developers at our local DUG I would like to propose assembling a Drupal Crash Course that covers the basics and gets everyone on some firm development/contribution footing. Topics that i would like to cover:

  • basic database schema (table relationships, incoming FK support)
  • bootstrap process and its relation to loading modules (a good over view of this helps you understand how everythign works)
  • drupal menu system (D5 and preliminary info on D6 hook_router/dispatch split)

Drupal Users Attending SXSW?

Only local images are allowed. Is there any interest in finding a night Drupal users lucky enough to be in Austin during SXSWi can get together?

SXSW is my favorite conference. I leave Austin both energized and exhausted every year. In addition to putting together great keynotes and panels, there is plenty of time to mingle with other geek speakers at the evening events. I don't know if it's the weather (Austin is a great place to be in March!), the food (the Iron Cactus serves a deep fried Jalapeño ribeye!), or the free (as in beer) beer, but I'm always inspired after meeting so many people working on such creative, interesting projects.

Austin Drupal User Group Monthly Meetup - February 7, 2007, 7-10 pm, Dog and Duck Pub, 406 West 17th St

Start:
2007-01-07 19:00 - 22:00 US/Central

Who

Calling all Austin Drupalers!

What

Austin Drupal User Group Monthly Meetup!

When

Wednesday, February 7th. 7-10 pm. As of Feb 1 '07, the poll to vote on your preferred day and time for the monthly Drupal meetup resulted in 21 total votes. Majority wins, so Wednesday, 7-10 pm it is.

Where

I received a few suggestions and am going with Dog and Duck for our February 7 meetup. I called them and was told they do allow free wireless Internet access but that folks need to BRING A CHARGED BATTERY FOR YOUR LAPTOP as they only have one spot to plug in an electrical cord. If your battery is low when you arrive at Dog and Duck, you and your laptop may be out of luck.

If you have a place in mind for our next meetup, please add your comment and include the venue name, address, phone number, and a URL, if available. Office/university space that works for about a dozen (12) folks is good as well, but we'll need an address, your cell phone number, and whether or not any special access is required.

Why

The Austin DUG wants YOUR participation and your fellow Drupalers want to meet you, make new friends/professional contacts, and learn about how you're using Drupal.

Graphic design and css help?

Hi. If you read this in the North Texas group, no need to repeat by reading this.

I'm new to the drupal community, but it my typical fashion we went ahead and built out a pretty extensive drupal site, and before launching are looking for Texas-based resources now to help with a better graphic interface, including block design and expertise with css mostly for better fonts. (Alex, you might be reading . . . any thoughts?).

The site is for an international philanthropic community called Spiral Dynamics Integral. The practitioners have been instrumental in personal emergence and human development techniques. In organizations and countries (like South Africa, The Netherlands, Middle East, etc.) SDi has worked to reduce conflict and help a new more peaceful social order emerge.

Austin Drupal Meetup - Jan. 10th at Gingerman

Nick Lewis and I were talking in #drupal and came to an agreement that we should revive the Austin Drupal meetup idea. We'll be meeting on Wednesday, January 10th at 7pm at Gingerman (downtown on 4th street). They have free wireless internet so bring your laptop if you like.

Hopefully by that time there might even be a Drupal 5.0 release! Also I believe there is another League of Technical Voters Codeathon planned for February 3rd (only 24 hours this time).

Drupal Training in Texas

I am in College Station, TX and am looking for low-level* Drupal training.
Is there anything nearby?
Would anyone care to share his/her experiences with any professional training he's received?

*or high-level, depending on what your use of the term. I'm referring to more than just installation-- advanced theming and api are a must.

Email notification of posts to this list

Hi all,

I haven't checked on this group in quite some time and was surprised to see 15 users and a potential meet-up being discussed. Seems like I may have missed the boat on that one. But, I did just discover the "Group Notifications" block over here to the right, which makes it easy to sign up for email notifications of new content posted here. Just wanted to share that discovery with y'all in case anyone else has trouble remembering to check back here regularly...

Where should the 1st Meetup take place for Drupal users of Austin and Central Texas?

NOTE: Please take the poll to determine when in late July 2006 we should have our first Austin DUG.

It would be great if we could get at least 5 Central Texas Drupal users together in Austin for our 1st meeting!

What is a DUG? Drupal User Group! And it can be whatever we make it. Come out for some beers, coffee, tea, or food (depending on where we decide to meet) and let's talk about Drupal, co-coding, the marketplace, show off modules and websites, etc. I'm figuring that after work hours probably works best. For this first meeting of the Austin DUG, we can keep it informal and set an agenda a few days in advance here on groups.drupal.org.

Introductions and yes, I've already purchased my ACL Music Fest ticket for September!

Hi,

I'm a Drupal user and would enjoy occasionally meeting to talk about Drupal and learn more about it. I'm currently in the process of launching my company's web site which will be, of course, powered by Drupal. But I have a ways to go and since I'm a Drupal user and not a developer, I'll be relying heavily on Robert Douglass' book and drupal.org forums to learn my way around.

With regard to the Austin Drupal Group, I can help some with the planning and execution of events. I'm not a developer, just a Drupal user, but I can help with setting up the logistics for local events such as asking folks to provide a location, etc. I hope we can find some other Drupal users/developers in the Austin area to get things going!
