High Performance

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

This is not a support channel or a place to post bug reports.

If you think you have found a bug, use the issue queue for the appropriate project.

If you need support, see http://drupal.org/support for options.

Special week for SGV Drupal Meetup Special Presentation Drupal Emergency Preparedness

Start:
2014-08-21 18:00 - 19:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

We are having a special meeting in the SGV on the third Thursday on August 21.

We will also be on Zoom conferencing. You can join the video conference or go to https://zoom.us/join and enter meeting ID: 129 319 220

The special week is to allow us to have a special presentation. The special presentation is from Keri Poeppe entitled Emergency Preparedness for your Drupal Site. This is something we all need.

Keri is with Gorton Studios, a Drupal dev shop in Minnesota, and NodeSquirrel, a Drupal backup service based on the Backup and Migrate module and built by the folks at Gorton Studios. Our goal is to give people helpful information about dealing with website emergencies. We'll also share a bit about NodeSquirrel and explain how Backup and Migrate / NodeSquirrel is part of being prepared. But, to be clear, this isn't a product push.

We will return to the fourth Thursday on September 25.

Increased response time after migrating PHP5.3 to PHP5.5

We have just completed an update of PHP on our servers. We went from 5.3 to 5.5. We have a pretty big site with lots of nodes, blocks, views, modules and users. Everything was working "ok" (there are some area's we know we can improve) but now with php 5.5 our response time has almost tripled on our main Drupal 7 instalation. On other Drupal 7 instalation the response times went down.

Digging more in to this we found that there were 3 hooks that really caused this increase:
- init
- entity_property_info
- views_data

Drupal Performance Enhancer We're rebooting the High Performance Drupal Meetup! Join us for the first Extreme Drupal Meetup where we focus on Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking as well as devops, deployment, infrastructure, high performance hosting, monitoring and highly repeatable processes.

This meetup is on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, between 7-9pm Pacific. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join the webcast.

We're also excited to announce our first-ever meetup at our new Marina Del Rey venue right next to Mothers Beach.

About Extreme Drupal

Formerly known as the High Performance Drupal Meetup, this event covers Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking as well as devops, deployment, infrastructure, high performance hosting, monitoring and highly repeatable processes.

All are welcome but this is not a meetup for beginners.

We've been meeting since April, 2011, in a variety of locations around the Greater Los Angeles Area. Also, this meetup has been held at coffeeshops in the past and the addition of caffeine makes our meetings feel as if they go faster and faster as the night goes on.

High latency with loading images

Hi there, have a website which seems to have very high latency with rendering images.

There is nothing special going on here, images are fields on content. Rendered using no Image style, from the same server, from the default path on the drive, anonymous users, performance caching is set to enabled, cache cleared, nothing in the logs, TOP from the prompt shows tons of free memory but I am getting lags of 12second latency on loading image assets even though the rest of the page loads fine.

Phpini shows 140MB of memory set.

What are other possible causes for this?

Thanks,

Seb.

IRC Channel: #drupal-performance

Hi High-Performance and Benchmarking-Drupal,

I thought it would be great to have a dedicated channel for high-performance discussions.

If there is already another channel, please point me to it, but if not lets all join #drupal-performance on FreeNode to discuss all performance related matters and especially also D8 performance.

Once we have enough people there we can even request a bot :).

Thanks,

Fabian

Block caching and access modules

Previously I had a serious performance issue on my website.
The reason is that I have a big menu with 130+ menu links.
Content access module was breaking the block caching, and the website page loading was 4 times slower. It was a real head banging until I found what causes that issue.

I've removed the content access module and wrote a custom code for block caching.

Right now I've added a Advanced forum on the same website with many features.
Unfortunately I have to use Forum Access module, because real forum is nothing without permissions.

Does the mongoDB integration really work in real life ?

Just in the process of planning a web project with a lot of fields the mongoDB integration came back to my attention.
When people speak about the integration they tend to point to a massive performance boost when writing and reading. But what is the real world factor here ?

Even more important is the data access. I know there is the EntityFieldQuery which give a way to integrate with Views. But is this production proofed; how does this work in a real world application ?
