Business Development Manager Responsibilities

  • Researches our industry and related industries, as well as related events, publications, and announcements that may signify opportunities for partnership or future business.
  • Manages our presence in various areas of the world, employing our team members as resources and representatives to allow you to do your job. Team member outreach.
  • Works with other staff to ensure registration and exposure in government, corporate, and academic supplier & supplier diversity portals. Initiate follow-up and outreach to contacts at individual companies and agencies.
  • Attends relevant conferences and networking opportunities.
  • Monitors and evaluates public opportunities such as RFIs/RFQs/RFPs as well as more informal opportunities exposed by Google Alerts and the likes.
  • Helps manage certification and government procurement initiatives (to be executed by other staff).
  • Helps develop relationships and partnerships with prime contractors and government agencies, as well as partners who augment our services.
  • Finds or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential partners, discovering and exploring opportunities.
  • Screens potential business deals by analyzing deal requirements and matching with the appropriateness for our company and goals. Communicates effectively and consistently with our managerial team, ensuring we are promising and communicating the right things to the right people.
  • Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, integrating contract requirements with business and staffing operations.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

You would work with the Director of Marketing, Interim Operations Manager, admin assistant(s), our lead Technical Project Manager and engineers as necessary (for technical and capacity questions), as well as myself, the CEO. I'm a software engineer and hard-core Drupal developer, as well as an experienced business person. This has advantageous to you, because I understand how to help convey qualitative, quantitative and technical value propositions for you to deliver to potential business relationships. The great majority of those who work with us very much enjoy doing so, provided that they (1) are who they say they are and (2) can communicate well and read/follow any directions closely. We like to go to conferences like DrupalCon, have a yearly meeting in Minnesota, go to local conferences, and I often jet off to various parts of the world to attend Drupaly things, so while we are a fairly virtual and distributed company we do like to connect in-person whenever we can and enjoy each other's company.

COMPENSATION

This is an ongoing, contract-to-W2-hourly employment opportunity with a negotiable compensation schedule. If you are extremely excellent and can jump right in, do well, close deals, and bill reasonable amounts of time, then we might be able to let you go full-throttle and be a part of our "core" team right away, bringing you on as a W2 employee (if that's what you desire).
