TakePart, the digital division of Participant Media, is seeking a Software Engineer for its office in LA. The position will assist in the development of our Drupal 7 content management systems. This is an exciting role at a rapidly growing media company whose mission is to create entertainment that inspires and compels social change.

Responsibilities:

Candidate will be working alongside other software engineers on developing features and functionality in support of a daily publishing site with 10MM monthly visits. Product lines and other projects include: publishing templates, content distribution and promotion, video, social network and community tools, analytics, and sponsorship initiatives.

  • Develop with Drupal best practices
  • Build and configure custom Drupal modules and themes
  • Plan and implement CMS-driven user interfaces
  • Convert designs from comps to pixel-perfect, responsive web presentations
  • Support content producers in creating custom HTML/CSS code
  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot CMS features
  • Troubleshoot cross-browser and cross-platform issues
  • Respond to production issues quickly and effectively

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years hands-on development experience in PHP on consumer-facing websites
  • 2+ years hands-on development experience with HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript
  • Experience working with MySQL or other relational databases
  • Experience with scrum or other agile development methodologies
  • Experience with Git or similar version control system
  • Familiar with coding best practices for SEO and accessibility
  • Familiar with CSS pre-processing and responsive design concepts
  • Dedication to clean, reusable, secure, scalable, and well-tested code
  • Comfort with rapid UI prototyping
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus points:

  • Drupal development experience – understanding of Drupal API, concepts and core modules
  • Knowledge of Ruby, Python or Perl
  • Experience with AWS
