The Marketing of Drupal

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This group is a central place for the Drupal Association Branding and Marketing Committee activities and is open for anyone interested to participate. Read more about our focus, goals, and purpose in our charter.

Our work is organized into the major areas listed below. We use this group for discussions and issue queues on drupal.org for tracking individual tasks. Join us and let's help Drupal dominate the world!

Projects

The purpose of undertaking the branding of Drupal is to accelerate the adoption of Drupal. In order to achieve this, we are focusing on the following areas:

  • Mission - Promoting the Drupal project to the public at large with particular focus on non-Drupal developers, CMOs, IT decision-makers and other project owners
  • Branding - Coordinating efforts around the brand, logo, and other collateral
  • Research - Ongoing marketing and competitive research
  • Ideas - Ideas and opportunities
  • Infrastructure - Organizational aspects of the Branding and Marketing Committee
  • Supporting Events

A full description of the goals and detailed breakdown of associated tasks can be found on the Drupal Association Marketing and Branding Committee Charter.

Improving Drupal Mindshare Among the Public

First, disclaimers:
1. This might be in the wrong place. If so, my apologies.
2. This might not be the right way to propose this. Again, apologies.
3. I am not a marketing or user interface expert, I am just a project manager at a Drupal shop, and this post is based on my experiences with clients. I also do a lot of point and click development for my company, and personally. I do some theming and module development, as well.

Creating a new Welcome Email for new Drupal account holders

At this time, when someone signs up for a Drupal account, they receive an email from info@drupal... to confirm their email address. I think we have an opportunity to get more information to these new Drupal account holders about the project along with a welcome guide.

I propose we consider an email to go after the account email is confirmed. It would be a helpful guide that includes some (or all) of the following:

You have an account, Now what?
-Download Drupal
-Check out Documentation
-Get some modules
-Ways to Get Involved
-Join the Drupal Association

Increase of new users in Drupal community in March 2011

I have been analyzing grow of community members in Drupal and from data (that counts people by the month of their first commit) which I attach below I see big increase in March 2011. I have started to look for the reason of this and have found that you had DrupalCon in Chicago where about 3,000 people had come. Is that the main reason, or there are any other reasons of this increase?

Would be glad to hear any suggestions

What is the policy of creating Twitter accounts for Drupal?

Hi,

I'm writing an article, where I explore use of social media in Drupal community. I have found out, that there are such account on Twitter as @Drupal, @Drupal_modules, @alldrupal, etc. Who is responsible to create such account? How many people are maintaining this account, like several of users can tweet from the same name? Any information would be very useful.

Sponsor the LA Drupal Association

In 2010, local Los Angeles-area organizers formed an unincorporated association named "LA Drupal Association" that is officially recognized as a legal entity by the State of California. This means that Los Angeles-area Drupal user groups now have the ability to receive donations and sponsorships large and small to help members produce the events, trainings and conferences that local Drupal user groups in Los Angeles are known for, as well as cover ongoing infrastructure and promotion costs.

Photo collection of community members in various Drupal t-shirts?

The Community page of drupal.org needs more of a 'human' feel to it, and we've had so many great Drupal event t-shirts over the years (and some of us have stylish new Drupal t-shirts from renewing DA memberships).

Do you think a photo collection of community members in their t-shirts could be useful for marketing the Drupal community, and making the Community section more appealing? The community section needs some reworking, see issue http://drupal.org/node/1288470

I could make a Flickr group that anyone could add photos too (no doubt, many photos already exist!).

Thoughts?

Lisa

Statistics about the Drupal Security Team

Hello Security folks and marketers,

I'm collaborating with Jojo Toth (mogdesign) on a marketing piece about security in Drupal. It will mostly be about the process of handling an issue. We're trying to brainstorm what statistics we might want to use, but most of them end up seeming negative when you first look at them. For example, if we brag that we handled ~60 issues in 2011 then that looks like Drupal is insecure ("wow, 60 issues is a lot!") until you dig into the facts that this was across Drupal core and ~5,000 contributed projects.
