Proposed D7 launch video script (with audio)
During the meeting today about D7 launch public relations, we noted the need for a launch video to go on the home page of drupal.org. Bojhan has already created a dummy video, as you can see at http://sandbox.stevekarsch.com/d7/announcement.html and http://vimeo.com/18160688 .
I took the liberty of writing a script and taking a couple of passes at the audio.
- The script is on a wiki page at http://groups.drupal.org/node/115339
- I can't attach audio files here, so here's take 1 (upbeat) and take 2 (lower-key) on my own site. Do not use them publicly: They need to be edited re-recorded.
Here's what it needs now to become a reality:
- Discussion to modify the script as needed, or reject it outright. Do so directly on the wiki page. Proposed deadline: 11:59pm, Thursday, 30 December.
- Professional re-recording of the audio. I'll arrange this once we have a finalized script. (If you decide to have a different voice do it, that's fine too.)
- Volunteer with video editing experience to create the video part. Proposed deadline: 11:59pm, Sunday, 2 January
Please comment. Thanks!

Download counter page
It would be nice to start d7 with a huge download counter like on http://wordpress.org/download/counter/ (congrats wp!)
This data can be semi live, most of these counters are. we could tail the accesslog of the d/l server once every 5 minutes and update the interval in between "fake" or if it possible make the page real. I dont know how well this would scale (caching, load etc) but could be big for prospects to see that Drupal is one of the top players.
Is this possible to make? should we?

Read moreNewsletter to Drupal hosting companies
The Drupal association keeps a list of hosting companies the support hosting Drupal. There are 216 contacts in our mailing list. We would like to send a detailed email explaining what Drupal 7 means for hosting companies. We can go over the basics of systems requirements, but we need to educate hosting providers about differences and benefits of Drupal 7. We've already seen some concern raised over the number of tables raised. We know there's concern about the performance of Drupal seven, but we know that services like Varnish can greatly improve anonymous page caching.

Continuing on from the last version for Drupal 6 I've attached new statistics that look at Drupal 7's contributors.
These are in order of when the person was mentioned, not number or alphabet.
Please review the list for any mistakes in names. Every time I do this the majority of the time is spent finding and fixing incorrect formatting in commit messages, spelling of usernames, etc.
The data is attached to this node as both an OpenOffice.org spreadsheet or as CSV.

Drupal 7 Crowdsourced Release Video
Drupal 7 has cost enormous blood, sweat and tears. Now's the time for celebrating. And hey, there are the release partys. To combine this with marketing, there is something else we could do. The style of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q48gzc-sl_8 struck me.
How about the following: Everybody records a video of himself or/and his pals or an even bigger group. One part consists of what Drupal 7 means to him personally. In the second part, we count down from 60 to 0, using a watch to synchronize the speed. This does not have to be all the way, ten numbers somewhere between 60 and 0 are enough. The final picture is a big "Drupal 7 is released".
What can I provide: helping market the campaign, talk to people to tweet about it, write a blogpost on the planet, get more people to write blogposts.
What I cannot provide: Video editing. Somebody proficient in video editing needs to step up. This person is doing the lions share of the work, for sure. But wouldn't that be cool and emotional...

Idealware recently published its second Annual Open Source comparison (see announcement below for link to get free report). Idealware is one of the more respected source of information on non-profit IT.
I'm posting here because Drupal 7 doesn't move at all in the ratings compared to Drupal 6. Ease of xx is still Solid rather than Excellent in most areas. Surprising to me is that its one Fair rating - Accessibility and Search Engine Optimization - doesn't budge either. I think there should be a Drupal community response.

Who is a designer?
Well, even trying to define what a designer is needs a consensus. Being the host of this memorable session, I tried to gear it more in the direction of artistic designers that know little or nothing about coding, the most they would know is HTML and CSS, but no PHP (run and hide). It is this group of people that are really good at aesthetics but that hate coding that Drupal sorely lacks. Concerning people that are active in the issue queue, we had a consensus in another session that you cannot count more than four in all of Drupal. (which may be wrong, but it sure feels like this).
