OpenPublish 1.6 Released
OpenPublish 1.6 has been released: http://bit.ly/getop
Please download and let us know how you like it.
If you are updating from a previous version, please do keep in mind that there are major changes (most importantly in the theme) and you should take usual care to backup the existing version and do extensive testing.
Read moreMaximum Database Size Allowed
Hi all, I am currently moving servers and reimported a .sql dump of my small drupal newspaper site which was 189 MB. This has left me wondering as to what the maximum database file size can be for importing. Id love to hear what sizes some of the others have here when doing exports and backing up the databases and could this ever grow so large that it would cause an issue. Is there such a thing as too many nodes for your site?

Hello All,
While I believe I have found the solution to my payment problem I posted about a few days ago, my next issue is this.
Allowing visitors to see partial content on a news site that is subscription based is usually a good thing. Visitors can preview the quality of the content, and perhaps there's that story they just have to know the ending to. But, you don't want those visitors full access to the content, now do you?
In essence, I am looking for a solution that will show visitors a "teaser" and subscribers the full article.
Read moreFront page news rotator for OpenPublish
I would like to submit all the custom code I used to integrate the front page news rotator that I'm using. It took me a couple days to set it up. It would include the custom css to fit the openpublish template, a CCK content type which I can export, a view which I can export, and instruction how to add the code to page.tpl.php and openpublish.info to create a new region.

I'm attempting to implement the Advanced Profile Kit module with my site and out of the box, it is working fine. But when I attempt to make changes to the content in Panels I get a white/blank screen.
I'm using the latest version of APK and Panels.
Anyone have a clue?
Thanks,
Joe
Paid Subscription Website
Hello All,
I have currently presented myself with the project of creating a online "newspaper" website. I have seen some of the examples (such as the NYC Observer), and am quite encouraged. While I don't expect to reach that size, or that level of development, it's nice to know that I have a platform that will grow with me. I would enjoy any advice you all may be able to provide, as ask for some suggestions on the biggest hurdle I've seen.
Masthead as a Module or as a Node
I'm looking for opinions on Masthead content.
Mastheads typically have the following:
Comparison of Automatic or Suggested Tagging Tools (OpenCalais, Yahoo Term Extractor, Autotagging, Extractor, etc.)
There are quite a few modules which help in making it easier to tag the content on a site.
Some of these are completely internal, some rely on free (or "freemium") third party services, some rely on fee-based third party services. Some provide UI enhancements and some are transparent to the end user.
Read moreShould I use workspace or create a custom view for writers?
I've been working my way through creating an article submission process through workflow, which I love and just wonder where it was 5 years ago. But now I'm working on creating a writer-facing edge on it. I've been working off of "Using Drupal," which suggests using workspace but creating a custom view doesn't like it would be that hard and would let me fine-tune the user experience.
Our writers are a mix of volunteer and paid, and are all over the board in terms of usability, so I'd like to make sure that the website speaks their language, so to speak.
Read moreSubscriptions to Print form?
Hello everyone,
I am currently developing a website for a local newspaper, and we are looking for some simple way for users to subscribe to our PRINT version of the newspaper. I want to include the following fields for the users to fill out:
- their name
- address
- some feasible way to pay (credit card number, most probably)
Is there any SIMPLE way to do this, preferably with some module?
Thanks

If you haven't been keeping an eye on http://drupal.org/project/modules you may have missed the recent postings by Nicolas Deschildre, who has released a dozen very nice components that were created for France24.com and Radio France Internationale. Easiest way top find them is through his profile: http://drupal.org/user/353500
A longer version of the France24 case study originally posted in this group is at http://drupal.org/node/614014.

Pirating of stories: Any way to stop this?
Is there any way to either prevent, or limit, the copying/pirating of stories from a Drupal site?
We've been finding our copyrighted stories plastered all over the Net, many of which are the entire article with not even a courtesy back-link.
Read moreNodequeue Question
I'd like to implement Nodequeue on our site to compensate for some of what Views2 alone lacks, like cutting down redundancy of stories on our front page, and the ability for our editorial team to better prioritize stories.
As I understand it, you can add an unlimited number of stories to a given Nodequeue, but is there any way to specify a time range for the queue? For example, is it possible to say "I only want to show stories from the last 24 hours in this queue"?
Read moreAP Webfeed Parser
I've mentioned on the group before that I've been working on a parser for FeedAPI (Drupal 6.x) to automate feeding AP Webfeeds into my site.
Well, after working with a developer, I have a working model now. It relies heavily on cck, ctools, eParser, Feed Mapper, and FeedAPI to get the job done, but it does work. It needs further development though.
Read moreCan't seem to remove the "submitted by admin" line
I'm trying to remove the "submitted by admin" line associated with the Gallery Assist node, but can't seem to find how to do that.
I've gone to the theme configuration to attempt to turn it off for various content types, but it doesn't work. I've searched through the page.tpl.php to look for the statements that would write the "submitted by line", but I can't seem to find and affect it.
I have attached a png screenshot showing the page with Devel activated displaying the relevant information.
Read moreadd child page link missing from journalist Book
Hi All, I would love some advice on this, I am pulling my hair out.
I created a new book (using the standard book module) that our journalist could maintain, and everything was working fine. They were able to browse to the book when logged in and click on the link that says- "add new child page" to keep adding pages and updates.
From yestarday however, this link to "add new child page" or access printer friendly version has disappeared from the book.
Organizing and Scheduling Content
I maintain a Drupal newspaper website and we're looking to improve the process for soliciting and publishing articles. The goals are to consolidate the process and make things more efficient for editors and authors to collaborate, as well as to provide some organizational tools to map out when articles will be published over the coming weeks or month.

How to create "big news"
I would love to know how to do http://www.huffingtonpost.com/big-news/#homepage
Where there are pages under their categories and selected tags, but using panels to do this is very time consuming. How else does one create "big news" pages with drupal without taking hours to set up a page?
Any advice would be great!
